Tiffany Haddish announces release of new song Woman Up, written by Grammy-winning hitmaker Diane Warren

A week after Black Music Month, Tiffany Haddish will release her new song Woman Up on Friday, May 7.

The actress, comedian and singer took to her Instagram page on Thursday to promote the catchy pop single on her Instagram Stories.

“So this song is coming out June 7th and will be available everywhere, honey,” she teased in a selfie clip as the catchy pop song played in the background.

Written by Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren, Woman Up comes complete with an anthemic sing-along chorus, as displayed by Haddish during a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, where she played a snippet of the song.

The presenter then asked what would happen if it became a real hit, which brought a big, beaming smile: ‘Wow, if it is a hit, it would be a blessing. I would be very happy.’

Tiffany Haddish, 44, announced she is releasing a new song, Woman Up, written by longtime hitmaker Diane Warren

While discussing the song’s origins, Haddish said it captures the spirit of female empowerment and overcoming obstacles, during an interview with Billboard.

“I hate seeing you like this / Lying in your bed, covers over your head, thinking it’s over,” the 44-year-old Los Angeles native sings on the upbeat anthem. “But it’s not, just stop / And come on.”

“I am beyond excited to share this incredible song Woman Up with the world,” the Girls Trip actress said in a statement to the publication. “Collaborating with legendary songwriter Diane Warren has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. The essence of this song accurately describes how I motivate myself every day and pick myself up when I need it most.”

‘It was great to work with Tiffany on Woman Up. It’s a song about getting knocked down and picking yourself back up again,” Warren, 67, added. “Tiffany makes you believe every word, that nothing can hold you back or hold you back.”

Warren’s track record as a songwriter bodes well for Haddish, as she has penned nine number one songs and charted 33 top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 during her career.

Her career as a songwriter for other artists dates back to the 1980s and includes Rhythm Of The Night (DeBarge, 1985), Who Will You Run To (Heart, 1987), If I Could Turn Back Time (Cher, 1989), When I’m back on my feet (Michael Bolton, 1990), and because you loved me (Celine Dion, 1996).

While many of these artists are considered pop stars, Warren’s reach across genres also includes country, rock and dance, with songs like How Do I Live (LeAnn Rimes, 1997), I Don’t Want to Miss A Thing (Aerosmith, 1998 ), including Music Of My Hear (Gloria Estefan and NSYNC, 1999) I Turn to You (Christina Aguilera, 2000), and most recently Say Don’t Go (Taylor’s Version) (Taylor Swift, 2023).

Discussing the origins of Woman Up with Billboard, Haddish said it “captures the spirit of female empowerment and overcoming obstacles.”
