Visitors at an eastern Chinese amusement park were left terrified when they became stuck 30ft in the air, hanging upside down on a broken pendulum ride.

More than 20 people were left dangling on the pendulum for around 10 minutes.

The nightmarish experience took place at a playground in Funan County, Anhui Province, on January 19, according to reports.

Witnesses filmed the incident and shared the footage on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.

In the video, many tourists can be seen trapped in their seats with their feet sticking up into the air at the highest point of the ride.

The lights of the pendulum were still flashing as they hung above dozens of onlookers who were waiting for the pendulum to start moving.

Workers had to climb the structure to fix the ride after they were unable to restart the control panel.

After the footage started to circulate on social media, the management company, the Anhui Shinet Entertainment Co. Ltd., released a follow-up statement.

Staff claimed that the pendulum stopped at the top because the weight of the people sitting on both sides was the same.

They also noted that they carry out daily checks on the machine.

Staff also said that if any of the tourists involved experienced discomfort, they can get a refund with a hospital check-up receipt.

This week, the Splash Mountain ride at Disney World in Florida, United States, officially closed.

Visitors flocking to the attraction on its final day were seen bottling the water and selling it online for hundreds of dollars.

The original ride’s ties to the 1946 film Song of the South came under scrutiny from woke bosses at Disney amid ongoing efforts to become more progressive.

Fans of the original ride took to eBay following the closure, claiming to sell water from the attraction, with some items marked as high as $202.50, and others priced at a more affordable $3.75.
