In the video, which has been viewed more than 10.1 million times so far, Marie captured her fellow shopper 'explain the difference between crystal and non-crystal.'

Her friend continued, “So the way to check if something is pure crystal or just glass is to do the little 'thump test'.”

Then she swiped her finger at the edge of the glass and listened to the subsequent sound.

“If it's just a (short) ring, it's glass,” the ex-husband explained.

'The difference with crystal is that you will hear it ringing like a bell.'

After identifying which of the two items in her hands was made of crystal, she revealed that the high-end product was selling for just $1 at the thrift store.

The woman added: “There's a good chance it is probably something like Waterford or Mikasa or one of those brands.”

Since crystal products often command high price tags, finding similar inexpensive products can keep consumers from spending hundreds of dollars.

“Excuse me while I start flicking glasses at the thrift store, lol,” a fourth person added.

Other thrift store enthusiasts learned the trick earlier from the popular film Miss Congeniality (2000).

The film stars actress Sandra Bullock as Miss United States pageant contestant Gracie Heart, who is actually an undercover FBI agent.

For the talent show portion of the competition, Gracie used crystal wine glasses filled with varying amounts of water to create harmony.

One follower commented, “Miss Congeniality taught me lmao. But your way is better.”

Another commenter wrote: 'Crystals sings. I learned that at Miss Congeniality.'
