Three Pines is AXED by Amazon Prime Video after just one series, as emotional cast admit decision is ‘difficult to process’
The Three Pines TV series has been phased out after just one series, Amazon Prime Video announced.
The murder mystery, starring Alfred Molina, has received the cut, despite positive reviews from critics and a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The cast addressed the decision not to renew the show, admitting that they are finding it difficult to process the decision.
Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers actress Isabelle Lacoste told fans: ‘Thank you to everyone who watched and supported the show. It meant a lot to me to know that this show resonated with such a massive global audience.
“As an indigenous actress, I never thought I would have the opportunity to lead a number 1 show like this.
Faced the chop: Mystery TV series Three Pines has been axed after just one series, Amazon Prime Video has announced
‘It was huge. Our stories matter and this show proved that audiences, regardless of background, are hungry for indigenous content.”
“We are proud of the work done on the series and the opportunity to work with great partners,” a representative for Prime told Variety.
Showrunner Emilia di Giorlamo also shared her disappointment that the show is not being renewed for another series.
‘Thank you for all the overwhelming messages about Three Pines. I know there is a lot of disappointment that the show will not return and I am saddened by the wonderful cast, crew and fans,” she wrote.
“I was not involved in the renewal talks and negotiations, but was told that Left Bank, Sony and Prime Video wanted to bring the show back, but were unable to reach a win-win deal.”
Three Pines is based on the novel series by Louise Penny, centered on Chief Inspector Armand Gamache.
The officer investigates a series of murders in Three Pines, an idyllic town in Quebec’s eastern townships, uncovering long-buried secrets while facing his own ghosts.
Unlike the books, the series includes a side story throughout the season, with Gamache investigating the disappearance of a young woman.

Fans also criticized Prime Video for not renewing the show, which they praised for being “powerful and different.”
One wrote: ‘I can’t believe there isn’t a second season! I suspect that Amazon really doesn’t know how powerful and different a show like Three Pines really is! I wish a TV station would pick it up! Where do we write to complain? We NEED our indigenous actors to be seen on quality shows like Three Pines! There is nothing like it in our media.
Another added: ‘THIS IS A CRIME! And like many crimes, I’ll never understand why it happened.
‘Three Pines was some of the best storytelling on streaming, cable and broadcast television. Thank you so much for bringing this caliber of entertainment. I am disappointed in the loss, but I will pour that energy into reading the book series.’
A third viewer said: ‘This is a really bad decision by Amazon. I loved season 1, particularly the indigenous stories.’
