Three people were reportedly killed and one person injured when a small plane crashed into a golf course near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Sunday.
The accident happened around 11:20 a.m. in the woods north of the Barefoot Resort and Golf Club. It involved a single-engine Piper PA-32 with four people on board, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.
Photos and videos posted online showed smoke billowing from the golf course near the upscale Barefoot Landing area.
A 911 dispatcher told the Sun news it remains an “active scene” as the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are said to be investigating the deadly crash.

Agent Pat Wilkinson told it WPDE that an 911 call came in around 11:18 a.m. and that the North Myrtle Beach Fire and Police Department rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, they saw the small plane engulfed in flames, and Wilkinson said the crew immediately began working to put out the fire.
He added that one person was taken to a local hospital and at least one other died at the scene.
“Keep the victims in your prayers,” Wilkinson said, adding, “We will assist law enforcement agencies as much as we can.
“Please try to avoid the area,” he urged the community. “We’ll have agents on site to guard.”

Describing the plane crash, a man took to Twitter to tell how he and his wife saw the plane go down while being stopped at a red light.
“I pointed it out to my wife and within seconds the smoke was rising,” he wrote. Emergency vehicles rushed by.
“This was all while we were waiting for the light to change.”
Officials have not said what led to the plane crash, or whether the pilot reported any problems. Both Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach have airports where small planes land for trips to the popular coastal community.
