Three Kansas City officers were shot during a standoff as officers warned the city is dangerous for policing.

The unidentified officers were serving a search warrant in the 2300 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. when they were shot while breaking down a door, Chief Stacey Graves told KMBC.

Graves confirmed that the officers knocked and announced their presence before breaking down the door. They were instantly met with gunshots and fled to self transport to the hospital in stable condition.

Mayor Quinton Lucas condemned the shooting and stressed the dangers of being an officer in the crime-ridden city.

“We have been reminded too much lately in Kansas City how dangerous police work can be,” Lucas tweeted. “I pray for a full recovery for our three officers injured tonight and that all who are on duty return home to their families safely.”

The officers are expected to survive their injuries and it is unclear if the suspect was struck before he went to the hospital.

A police standoff ensued after the shooting and no arrests were made until 2 a.m. EST on Wednesday, according to the news outlet.
