Three hour queues and huge crowds: What it’s really like to visit Movie World on the busiest day of the year

A theme park enthusiast has expressed his shock at three-hour queues for rides at Movie World on the Gold Coast.

A reviewer from theme park hobby group That's So Mid shared images of long lines at Movie World at various times last Wednesday.

“You won't believe how long some of the lines are,” he said, pointing to 210- and 120-minute lines for favorite rides, Superman Escape and Batwing Earshot.

Wait times for popular attractions at Movie World reached three and a half hours on Wednesday (above) – but there was a reason for the chaos

“Yeah, I wouldn't wait for that,” he said, as the temperature reached 27 degrees.

But there was a reason for the long queues: it was one of the busiest days of the year, at the start of the Christmas holidays.

It also followed a devastating storm that hit south-east Queensland and led to the area's famous theme parks, including Wet'n'Wild and Dreamworld, being closed as operators assessed the damage.

The wait times at Movie World got worse as the day went on.

A huge crowd flooded the theme park's Main Street (above) for the Star Parade at 4:30 p.m.

Hundreds of commenters said they would rather miss the theme park than wait in the long lines.

“I couldn't think of anything worse,” one TikTok user wrote.

“Why bother, three rides and you have to leave,” said another.

But a park employee noted there was a good reason for the long lines, given the chaos caused by the storms.

“The reason the lines were so long that day was because all the other parks were closed because of the storm, so everyone went to Movie World,” they said.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Village Roadshow Theme Parks for comment.
