Threads has confirmed that a major update will be available soon, less than a week after its record-breaking launch.
An alternate feed will soon appear in Meta’s new app, allowing users to browse the content they follow in chronological order.
This would be a drastic change from the current options, with just one home page displaying a mix of recommended posts and “threads” of the posts followed.
It would also make Threads even more similar to its rival Twitter, which currently allows users to switch between a curated feed and content that is followed only.
The move was confirmed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, who responded to a Threads post from tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee last week.

Mr Brownlee wrote: ‘As long as the big bosses here are actively listening to feedback… a home feed just for people you follow would be [hand with index finger and thumb crossed emoji].’
Meta’s founder Mark Zuckerberg gave this a thumbs up before Mr. Mosseri said, “On the list.”
The expected chronological feed option would bring Threads in line with Meta’s other social media apps, Instagram and Facebook.
This feature returned to Instagram last year — six years since it was deprecated in favor of a curated feed.
The turnaround was a popular decision among Instagram’s loyal users, with some expressing how “tired” they were of “interacting with people’s three-day-old posts.”
But this isn’t the only feature expected to be posted on Threads, which hit 100 million signups over the weekend.
Just yesterday, Mr. Brownlee recommended another change to the new platform, which was again acknowledged by Mr. Mosseri.
“Threads needs an easy place to find a post you’ve seen before,” Mr. Brownlee wrote.
“You can like things, but there’s no place to see what you liked. And search currently only shows accounts, not posts. I saw a great post from someone I didn’t follow before and now it’s gone.”
Mr. Mosseri replied, “It’s on the list.”

Mr. Brownlee also recommended another change to the new platform, which was acknowledged by Mr. Mosseri
A few days ago, Mr. Mosseri acknowledged that some other basic features were currently missing from the app.
This includes the ability to use hashtags, message other users, and view trending posts.
Users also realized they couldn’t permanently delete the app without also sacrificing Instagram – with both platforms intertwined.
Instead, Instagram’s guidance suggests that “you can always delete individual posts,” set a profile as private, or simply block other users.
In response, Mr. Mosseri wrote: ‘I have received some questions about deleting your account.
To clarify, you can deactivate your Threads account, which will hide your Threads profile and content, you can set your profile to private, and you can delete individual threads posts – all without deleting your Instagram account.
“Threads is powered by Instagram, so right now it’s just one account, but we’re looking into a way to delete your Threads account individually.”
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, clarified the situation around account deletions
In a separate post, he added that it would “take time” to introduce other basic features to Threads.
“The real test isn’t whether we can build a lot of hype, but whether you all find enough value in the app to keep using it over time,” he said.
And it’s missing a lot of basic features: search, hashtags, next feed, chart sync, fedverse support, maybe posts…
‘We are working on it. The (great) team gets to work. But full disclosure, it will take time.’
