Thousands of traveling Wrexham fans were unable to watch the start of their side’s FA Cup tie against Blackburn after huge queues formed outside Ewood Park before kick-off.

The fourth round match was intended to be a historic occasion for the League Two club, with the winners set to play a home match against Newcastle in the last sixteen.

But the evening quickly turned sour when fans were kept out of the stadium due to logistical issues.

When the match started at 7.30pm, very few of the 7,000 Wrexham fans had actually made it to their seats.

Instead, they were held outside the turnstiles, waiting to be searched by security before entering.

Supporters were left furious at the way they were treated, with one insisting the match should not have started until the fans had gotten into the ground.

They posted: ‘@FA @BBCSportWales match between Blackburn and Wrexham should never have started with so many away fans still outside. Fans are confined to stairwells and appropriate access for disabled fans. Then they wonder how disasters happen.’

Another fan posted a photo at 7.32pm – two minutes after kick-off – showing they were still a long way from the turnstiles, while labeling the situation a ‘mess’.

The match will be shown on the BBC and football reporter and Wrexham fan Bryn Law revealed that some fans had started watching the match on their phones after failing to get into the ground in time.
