A potentially fatal fuel pump failure has led to the recall of thousands of Toyota C-HR vehicles.
The defect could cause a serious fire in the engine compartment, resulting in death or injury.
If drivers smell a fuel odor, it is a warning sign.
“The internal components of the fuel pump can wear and break the weld portion of the fuel pump, which could lead to a fuel leak into the engine compartment,” the federal Department of Transportation said.

A potentially fatal fuel pump fault has led to the urgent recall of Toyota C-HR vehicles
‘A vehicle fire can increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders.’
C-HR Petrol (NGX10 and NGX50) variants are the brands at risk, including the C-HR 2WD 1.2L petrol model and the C-HR AWD 1.2L petrol model.
The recall affects 14,480 vehicles sold between 2019 and 2023.
Owners of these vehicles should request a free fuel pump replacement.
“Toyota will contact affected owners in writing and ask them to make an appointment at their preferred Toyota dealer, who will inspect the fuel pump and replace it if necessary, free of charge,” the recall notice said.
Similar fuel pump issues also plagued the model before a recall was ordered in 2021 for 7,669 affected vehicles sold between 2019 and 2021.
Last week, hundreds of Toyota Klugers were recalled after a major safety issue was identified with the vehicle’s airbags.
The safety issue affected 625 vehicles in the 2023 Kluger Petrol model range TXUA70 and TXUA75.
The recall affects 14,480 vehicles sold between 2019 and 2023 and owners can sign up for a free fuel pump replacement
The safety issue also extends to several other variants of the car model, including the Kluger 2.4L Petrol 2WD, Kluger 2.4L Petrol AWD and Kluger Hybrid 2.5L.
A warning issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has a tendency to lose the airbags in the vehicle over time.
‘The driver’s side airbag wiring connection can become loose over time. “As a result, the airbag warning light will illuminate and the driver’s side airbag will not deploy,” the warning said.
The problem can cause the airbags to stop working if the mentioned models of the car are involved in an accident.
