Thousands of iPhone owners claim their batteries are draining unexpectedly fast – here’s what to do if your phone is affected

  • iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro owners say their batteries are draining quickly
  • Users suggest a number of reasons, including overheating or MagSafe charging

It’s been less than a year since Apple launched the iPhone 14, but it seems that owners are already having problems with their smartphones.

Several iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro owners have been complaining on social media that their batteries are draining unexpectedly quickly.

One user posted a screenshot of their battery status, showing a maximum capacity of just 89 percent.

This is despite Apple’s claim that its batteries should “retain up to 80 percent of their original capacity through 500 full charge cycles under normal conditions.”

Here’s what to do if you have one of the affected models and notice that your battery is draining.

Several confused users took to Twitter this week to discuss battery drain.

“iPhone 14 pro max battery is deteriorating faster than a melting piece of butter,” one user tweeted.

“I got the phone in November last year. 89% in just 9 months. This is certainly not normal. I’ve had almost every iPhone since iPhone 6 and this is the worst I’ve ever seen.”

Another added: “Another percentage fell on my iPhone 14 Pro, that’s 3% in a week.

“Still, my charging behavior hasn’t changed or anything. So annoying I think it’s a sign to sell.”

And one joked, “My iPhone 14 Pro Max is now useless at 91% battery life. Think it’s time to buy a new one. Maybe next month…”

While the reason for the problem remains unclear, users have put forward several theories, including MagSafe charging or overheating.

“Convinced that using MagSafe charging damaged my iPhone 14 Pro battery. Losing 10% capacity in less than a year… is not normal,” one user suggested.

Another added: “Either the iPhone 14 Pro has an overheating issue or the battery has a long life issue, or both.”

How to optimize your iPhone’s battery

If you are experiencing the problem, there are several things you can do to optimize your battery’s performance.

Apple recommends updating to the latest software, dimming your screen brightness, and using Wi-Fi when available.

Alternatively, you can put your iPhone in low power mode.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal’s Senior Personal Technology Columnist Joanna Stern suggests there may be another problem at play.

In her newslettershe wrote, “Has the always-on display — which is new to these iPhone Pro models and I’ve been using it for the first half of the year — caused capacity to drain faster?

Does the phone not cool or dissipate heat as well as other models? Maybe it’s because I’m running beta software?’

MailOnline has reached out to Apple for comment.

Alternatively, you can put your iPhone in low power mode.

“Low Power Mode reduces screen brightness, optimizes device performance, and minimizes system animations,” explains Apple.

Apps, including Mail, won’t download content in the background, and features like AirDrop, iCloud sync, and Continuity will be disabled.

“You can still use key features like make and receive calls, email and message, browse the web, and more.

“And when your phone charges again, Low Power Mode switches off automatically.”
