Thomas Tuchel should leave Bayern Munich NOW after he conceded hopes of winning the Bundesliga are OVER, claims Didi Hamann… as German media pile pressure on early departure

A former Bayern Munich star led calls for Thomas Tuchel to leave the club early after their latest defeat.

Tuchel’s side lost again this weekend, losing 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund as they fell 13 points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

The German admitted defeat in the race for the title after the match and congratulated Xabi Alonso’s team on their title success, despite having seven games and 21 points left to play.

He will leave the club at the end of the season after being sacked earlier this year but was retained until the end of the season despite the club looking set to lift their first Bundesliga title in 12 years.

Following the 2-0 defeat to Dortmund on Saturday, former Munich side Didi Hamann has called for an early change to give them the best chance of progressing in the Champions League.

Hamann said Bayern must now change managers to give them the best hope of Champions League success

“As a club you have to make a decision now about what is best for the club,” he said Sky90. ‘It’s not about Thomas Tuchel or Max Eberl, Harry Kane or Joshua Kimmich, it’s about Bayern Munich.

“You are one of the eight best teams in Europe and if Bayern play what they can, they have a very good chance of making progress against Arsenal. This (Arsenal) is a good team, but still very inexperienced at this level. And in my opinion you have to make a decision now whether this is the best possible formation to progress against Arsenal.

“For me, the management must ask itself whether it will enter the final sprint of the competition and the Champions League in the coming weeks with Thomas Tuchel.”

‘You now have to seriously think about hiring a new trainer for the final weeks. There are many on the market. I think of a Mourinho. You can think whatever you want about Mourinho, but at Chelsea the players loved him. From a professional perspective, he is an outstanding man.”

The German media have echoed Hamann’s calls, with lead publication BIL arguing that the former Chelsea boss should resign immediately.

Columnist Alfred Draxler wrote: ‘I believe that Bayern should release Thomas Tuchel after yesterday’s performance. Maybe that should have happened sooner after it was clear he had to go.

‘Not only did the players have terrible body language, the coach had it too. What he said after the match was one of complete helplessness. You get the feeling that he is no longer in control of this team, that he is no longer in control of the job.’

‘Bayern has nothing left to lose. That’s why you can risk everything again and appoint another coach. But they still have something to win, namely the Champions League. And I say that, given yesterday’s performance and attitude, they lose both games against Arsenal. If that’s what they want, they should keep going. I would respond.”

German media have also called for the manager’s departure, while BILD called for an immediate departure

Bayern now only have one hope of winning a trophy this season, and that is the Champions League

Premier League title chasers Arsenal will be favorites for their quarter-final against Bayern, which gets underway at the Emirates next week.

Tuchel gave up his title hopes after the defeat to Dortmund, saying: ‘After today’s match there is no need to count points anymore. How many are there now? Congratulations Leverkusen.

‘We are very disappointed because we felt that we did not have the necessary passion to win the match. It wasn’t enough of us when it came to the basics.”

However, he will still be hopeful of success in Europe as his side look to ensure they – and Harry Kane – do not go through the season trophyless.
