Thomas Tuchel wants to add Chelsea and Portugal manager Anthony Barry to his coaching staff after agreeing to become Bayern Munich’s new manager.
The German coach was appointed as Bayern’s new boss on Friday after the German giants sacked Julien Nagelsmann.
Tuchel is expected to bring along trusted allies Zsolt Low and Arno Michels, but according to The Telegraph he’s also targeting Barry to add to his backroom squad and Chelsea are gearing up for a battle to keep their highly-skilled manager.
Barry entered the club with Frank Lampard, having previously worked as assistant manager to Paul Cook at Wigan and enjoyed a playing career in the lower leagues with clubs such as Yeovil and Accrington Stanley.
After Lampard’s departure, the 36-year-old stayed at the club and worked with Tuchel as Chelsea won the Champions League. He then remained at Stamford Bridge as part of Graham Potter’s staff following the German’s dismissal.

Barry also has international experience, having worked with the Republic of Ireland before teaming up with Roberto Martinez on a part-time basis, first with Belgium, and is now part of the Portugal coaching staff.
Tuchel is understood to rate Barry extremely highly and would like to work with the coach once more.
However, there is no indication if Barry would be interested in joining Tuchel at Bayern or if Chelsea would allow their former manager to talk to him about a move to Germany.
Bayern relieved Nagelsmann of his services after not being convinced by the former boss of RB Leipzig. With chief executive Oliver Kahn admitting the club was forced to act after seeing “big fluctuations in our performances”.
The German giants are currently one point behind Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga and Tuchel will go toe to toe with his ex in his first game in charge.
Tuchel could also face a return to Stamford Bridge in the Champions League if his troops top Manchester City and the Blues top Real Madrid in their quarter-final clashes.
Barry combines his role at Chelsea with working part-time as part of Portugal’s backroom staff.
