Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel revealed he is still waiting for an explanation as to why he has been given a suspension but Antonio Conte has not after their touchline clash last week following a 2-2 draw with Tottenham.
The German manager admitted the decision has not been explained to him yet, after being handed a one-match touchline ban, although Spurs boss Conte received no such punishment for his game against Wolves on Saturday.
The two managers were both shown red cards last Sunday after the final whistle following a clash as they went to shake hands, with both managers furiously squaring up following the dramatic end to the game.
Thomas Tuchel has not been told why he has a touchline ban but Antonio Conte does not
Tuchel said on SkySports ahead of the clash with Leeds: ‘I’m not surprised, there is no explanation yet.
‘We wait for the explanation for the punishment and if it is accepted then I’ll be out of the coaching but let’s wait for an explanation.
‘We both got a red card and seems like Antonio Conte has no ban so let’s see why.’
The two managers had to be separated after a touchline clash after the final whistle
While Tuchel must make do with a sideline role on Sunday afternoon, the Italian coach went unsuspended as he guided his Spurs side to a 1-0 win at home to Wolves, courtesy of a record-breaking Harry Kane header.
But although the former Chelsea boss was allowed to coach his side, the cost of his actions was palpable, as he was landed with a £15,000 fine.
However Tuchel has clearly been judged as the guiltier of the two parties, receiving a £35,000 fine on top of his touchline ban by an independent regulatory commission tasked with dealing out a suitable punishment.
And the decision has surprised many pundits, with many believing that if one manager should be suspended then the punishment should be dealt to both coaches.
Former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle said on BT Sport: ‘It takes two to tango. I’m surprised they’ve only banned Tuchel.
‘I think they saw him as the aggressor but I think it should have been both (banned).
Both managers have been handed a fine with Tuchel penalised £35,000 and Conte £15,000
‘Tuchel goes right across Conte. I think Tuchel has reacted and then we see what we see.’
And his broadcasting colleague Joleon Lescott agreed, adding: ‘I am (surprised) to be fair. We never want to see managers suspended but if they’re suspending one it should be both.
‘I think it depends on the manager (in terms of how they act). In terms of the emotional side when you see a teammate get a bad tackle you want to go and get involved.’
