Thomas Pieters becomes the latest star to ‘sign for LIV Golf’ in another coup for the PGA Tour and the European Ryder Cup team… just days after the world number 34 ‘couldn’t make it’ to the Genesis Invitational

Thomas Pieters has dealt another blow to the PGA Tour, signing with his bitter rivals LIV Golf, according to reports.

Pieters represents the second big signing of the offseason for CEO Greg Norman, who also convinced world No. 46 Mito Pereira to join the Saudi-backed circuit.

The 31-year-old will reportedly be introduced as a new member of LIV on Monday and will participate in the opening invite for his second season on Friday in Mexico, reports The Telegraph.

He claims he has ‘signed for LIV Golf’ in what is a coup for the Tour and Europe’s Ryder Cup team.

Sportsmail reported in October that Pieters was a target for Norman and LIV Golf.

Thomas Pieters has reportedly defected from the PGA Tour in favor of joining LIV Golf

Speaking in January about playing at the Youdal Open in Belgium, Pieters expressed his love for golf.

“At 16 or 17, you have dreams of winning trophies, but you never think about money,” he said.

‘I’ve had a very good life outside of golf. I can walk away and have a very nice life right now. It’s not about that; I love playing.’

Now Pieters will be able to enjoy both, with LIV Golf known for its more relaxed yet equally energetic invitations.

Earlier this week, the Belgian shared his disappointment at not being invited to the Genesis Invitational, a PGA Tour event in Los Angeles, despite his estimated world ranking.

‘Sad to miss my favorite tournament of the year. Because besides being #34 in the world, I just couldn’t get into @PGATOUR #GenesisInvitational,” he wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

Pieters’ defection comes days after a federal judge ruled that the head of Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund must produce documents in his antitrust lawsuit against the Tour.

Now, the PGA Tour can search for documents and any communications related to matters such as LIV Golf’s recruiting and dealings with players, their business plans and their involvement in the new league.
