Meghan Markle’s father has strongly denied his daughter’s claim that someone else used her phone to send her a heartbreaking text days before her wedding to Prince Harry.

Retired Hollywood lighting director Thomas Markle, 78, says he wrote “every word” of the emotional message as he lay in hospital recovering from two heart attacks.

In the third episode of the bombshell Netflix series Harry & Meghan, released on the streaming service last week, Meghan claimed her father’s phone had been “compromised”.

Speaking about the drama that unfolded in the days leading up to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, when her father posed for paparazzi photos and then suffered two heart attacks that prevented him from walking her down the aisle, Meghan said she discovered that her father was not attending her wedding via the TMZ website.

In the third episode of the bombshell Netflix series Harry & Meghan, released on the streaming service last week, Meghan claimed her father’s phone had been “compromised”.

The US news site broke the story after a reporter called Markle and told them she would not be attending the wedding.

On the show, the Duchess claimed she was “calling, calling, calling, and the world is watching this drama unfold”, as the show dramatically displayed messages from her phone on the screen.

These included concerned text messages sent from Meghan’s phone, including one that read: “I’ve been contacting you all weekend, but you’re not returning any of our calls or responding to any texts…? Do you need help?… What hospital are you in?” a?’

Another, sent on May 17, 2018, read: ‘Please can I ask you to stop speaking to the press… You have not returned any of our 20+ calls since we all spoke on Saturday morning; which only adds to the damage you’ve been dealing. We’re not mad, but we really need to talk to you. Love M and H.’

Mr. Markle’s text response was also displayed on the screen as dramatic music played: “I have done nothing to hurt you, Meghan or anyone else. I don’t know anything about 20 phone calls. I’m sorry my heart attack is over.” there”. [sic] any inconvenience to you.

Minutes later, he sent another message saying: ‘If only I had died, then you, then [sic] I could pretend to be sad.

Meghan said she found out her father would not be attending her wedding through the TMZ website.

Meghan says on the Netflix show: “It was really weird. You know how people text, right?

“My dad used a lot of emojis and a lot of ellipses and period, period, period, and this was the complete opposite. And he called me Meghan. I was like, “He has never called me Meghan any day that I’ve lived on this planet.” Meg, all my friends call me Meg and my parents call me Meg and I was like, “That’s not my dad.”

“Then we knew that his phone had been compromised.”

But Markle told The Mail on Sunday night last: ‘I wrote every word I sent from that phone which is still in my possession.

“For her to claim my phone was compromised is simply not true.

“I wrote that text while lying in a hospital bed after having two heart attacks and having stents placed.”

Markle, who is still recovering from a stroke that nearly killed him in May, explained: “I’ve used Meghan’s full name before when things get serious.

‘It is not true to say that I have never used his full name. I use it when I’m serious, when there are serious issues involved.

I wasn’t angry. I was in hospital. Not once did they ask me how I was doing. When I received your messages I was upset. I thought I didn’t deserve those messages.

He also shared text messages with MoS showing that he told her that doctors had advised him not to make the trip to the UK, but he offered to go anyway.

In a text written on May 16, 2018, just three days before the wedding, Markle wrote: “Surgery went well. Heart attack did some damage. They went in and fixed it.” [sic] that and some stamps [stents] the doctor won’t let me fly so of course I’m sorry but I can’t go loving you and wishing you the best in everything.’

In another text several hours later, he wrote: ‘Who is going to give you? Do you really need me? I’ll come, sorry for all this.

Prince Charles ended up walking the Duchess down the aisle after she walked alone into St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Markle has repeatedly apologized for staging the paparazzi photos, which she says she did because she believed they would help her image and alleviate some of the press attention.

He said: ‘I made a terrible mistake for which I have apologized many times. I never received any help. I believed the photographer, who told me that those photos would take some of the pressure off me.

‘Harry and Meghan are now doing everything they told me not to. They told me never to speak. I think what they’re doing now is much worse than anything I’ve ever done before.

At the end of the episode, Prince Harry revealed that he blames himself for the ‘incredibly sad’ turn of events, saying: ‘Of course it’s incredibly sad what happened.

‘She (Meghan) had a father before this and now she has no father. And I assumed it, because if Meg wasn’t with me, her father would still be her father.

Markle said: ‘She still has a father. I am here, I still live in the same house and I still have the same number. I’m still her father. I would love to see my grandchildren. They have two grandparents who would love to see them. He said he was “overwhelmed” by the public’s support this week, adding: “I think this is a family matter that should be handled by the family.” I love my daughter and always will.
