Microsoft is setting expectations for its big Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, saying the roughly two-hour show won’t hold too much promise like previous showcases and E3 keynotes. But the company isn’t tempering expectations for what’s to come from Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks either – Xbox fans will be treated to “games, games, games, games and Star field” said vice president of Xbox games marketing Aaron Greenberg on Twitter.
Greenberg also said that none of Xbox’s first-party games on the Xbox Games Showcase are “full CG trailers,” seemingly in response to a recent CG-heavy showcase from PlayStation maker Sony and some of Microsoft’s past showcases where titles that were early in development, such as Fable, Perfectly darkAnd Granted were revealed. Greenberg promised: “Everything is either in-game footage, in-engine footage, or in-game footage with some cutscenes. Each of our trailers will be labeled so hopefully it’s clear to our fans.”
The Xbox VP also confirmed, perhaps cheekily, that “there will be no movie trailers in our game show.” Sony showed a trailer for its live-action Gran Turismo movie at last month’s PlayStation Showcase, remember. And Microsoft used some of its time at The Game Awards in 2021 to ramp up its hype Halo TV serials.
And unlike last year, the Xbox team doesn’t promise everything it shows this year appears during the next 12-month window, said Groenberg. Microsoft made that commitment at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2022, a promise it couldn’t keep for games like the new Forza Motorsport, Arch 2And STORER 2.
Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase will air on Sunday, June 11 from 10am PDT/1pm EDT/7pm CEST and will be streamed on Xbox’s YouTube, TwitchAnd Facebook channels. Right after the show comes Starfield Direct from Bethesda Softworks. The showcase in front Star field promises “new gameplay, developer interviews, and behind-the-scenes inside information” for the upcoming Windows PC and Xbox Series X game.
