This year’s Rockefeller Center tree will travel to New York from Massachusetts

NEW YORK– The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will travel from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, to New York City this year, Rockefeller Center officials announced Monday.

The Norway spruce will be cut down on Nov. 7 and will travel about 140 miles (225 kilometers) south, arriving in downtown Manhattan on Nov. 9, officials said. It will be illuminated during a live TV broadcast on December 4.

The Rockefeller Center tree is one centerpiece of New York City’s holiday festivities since the 1930s and attracts large numbers of visitors every year.

This year’s tree is the first from Massachusetts since 1959, according to Rockefeller Center officials.
