This ‘red chilli test’ will tell if YOU got ‘the evil eye’ and are cursed with bad luck
- Bec Donlan, founder of Sweat with Bec, took the test after a period of bad luck
- One of her clients suggested she might be suffering from the evil eye
- She documented the experiment and was stunned by the results
A fitness trainer down on her luck was stunned after trying a red chili pepper test to see if she was cursed by the “evil eye.”
Bec Donlan, founder of Sweat with Bec, took to TikTok on Wednesday to get a video of herself holding a dried chilli over an open fire to see if she had fallen victim to malevolent forces.
The influencer explained that she had just moved apartment and was having a “rather wild” month, though she didn’t go into detail about her woes.
One of her clients suggested she might be suffering from the evil eye – a superstitious belief in a curse caused by an evil gaze.
Sweat with Bec founder Bec Donlan took to TikTok this week to try a red chili pepper test to see if she’s been cursed by the ‘evil eye’
The fitness trainer, who has more than 60,000 Instagram followers, explained that she was out of luck and a client suggested she might be suffering from the evil eye.
“She was like, ‘Bec, in Indian culture, what my family does is you burn a red chilli over a flame, and if you can’t smell it… you’ve got the evil eye,'” the trainer said.
The belief in the evil eye goes back thousands of years and has roots in Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism.
Traditions vary between different cultures, but pendants and amulets to ward off the evil eye are still popular.
Donlan explained that she was on board with trying the home test her client recommended and pulled out a bag of dried red chiles.
“I bought a jumbo bag because you know what? I feel like I need it,” she said.
She commented that the smell of the burning chili would take her breath away. She was halfway through a sentence when she began to cough from the powerful fumes.
Donlan doubted she wouldn’t be able to smell the burning chili because the smell was already “killing” her.
She held a single chilli pepper over a candle flame until it caught fire, then lifted it to her face as it burned.
Donlan immediately started coughing from the strong smell of the dried red chili peppers
The influencer was told that if you burn a red chili pepper over a flame and you can’t smell it, you are cursed by the evil eye. She was stunned when she realized she couldn’t smell it
“Guys, this is crazy,” she said. “As if the smell of that bag took my breath away. How?’
After a few seconds, she waved her hand at the smoke, but she still couldn’t smell anything.
“Not having a coughing fit may mean that the individual is afflicted with (the) evil eye,” according to Sanatan Sanstha. “The reason not to cough is that the pungent nature of the chillies is used to destroy the vibrations of black energy.”
Donlan, who was admittedly skeptical of the chili test, was shocked that she couldn’t smell the burning pepper.
‘Guys, this is crazy,” she said. “As if the smell of that bag took my breath away. How?’
Sanatan Sanstha offered a home remedy to exorcise the evil eye, which involves mixing an odd number of red chillies with salt.
The person doing the pouring should hold the mixture in their fist before swinging it around the affected person.
The peppers and salt are burned on smoldering coals after the casting process.
Donland concluded that in a follow-up video she will document how to “get rid of this evil eye,” saying, “I’m stunned.”
