This Morning’s Josie Gibson in hysterics as she suffers hilarious wardrobe malfunction live on air

Josie Gibson was left in hysterics on Wednesday after an awkward wardrobe malfunction caused her ‘bra’ to fall off live on This Morning.

The presenter, 38, traded her toes for a tail when she presented a segment for the hit ITV show celebrating the release of Disney’s live-action reboot of The Little Mermaid.

She was then sent to a mermaid school in Worcestershire to learn how to swim like Ariel – and even got a qualification.

And after dressing for the part, presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary introduced the quirky segment, with Alison asking, “Does Josie have what it takes to be a mermaid?”

Lying next to a swimming pool, Josie was seen in a blue swimsuit embellished with a shell bra and a blue mermaid fin.

As she struggled to sit up, she joked, “Dermot, Alison – I’m starting to realize why Ariel wanted legs!” It’s pretty hard to get to, but Lisa is here putting the finishing touches on my fin.’

As she continued to introduce her “mermaid instructors,” she had an unfortunate accident and exclaimed, “Oh no, my shell fell off!”

Confused from the studio, Alison asked, “What’s that?” What did you say?’

Josie now struggled to keep a straight face and replied, “That was my bra!” My bra fell off’.

Alison and Dermot couldn’t hold back as Josie tried to protect her modesty by searching for the shells.

Alison burst out laughing and said, ‘Keep those shells on! that’s all I’m going to tell you.’

But despite her accident, all was not lost for Josie, who had a successful day teaching.

She said at the end of the lesson: ‘I’ve had a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful experience being a mermaid for the day. It was fantastic!’

Reflecting on the look of the mother of one, Alison said as the clip came to an end, “The moment she went under and came up she looked so beautiful and all her hair was back.

“She’s the most beautiful mermaid I’ve ever seen. Where can I get such a flipper?’

The accident would certainly brighten the mood in the studio, which has been awash in drama since Phillip Schofield’s shock departure from the show.

Schofield, 61, resigned from ITV last week after admitting the affair with a much younger male colleague, before the show’s former doctor, Dr Ranj Singh, said he had expressed concern two years earlier about “bullying and discrimination’.

Despite the chaos that engulfed the show, ratings skyrocketed as the stand-in hosts tried to quell the backlash.

A total of 797,000 people tuned in to watch Monday’s episode, peaking at 996,000.

That was a significant leap from the 703,000 viewers who tuned in on May 22 – peaking at 918,000.

Alison and Dermot are said to have felt let down after the revelations about their beleaguered ex-colleague Schofield came to light last week – just days after the pair paid a gushing on-air tribute to the presenter.

The pair appeared to be referring to the claims of “toxicity” when he hosted Monday’s episode of the show, with O’Leary saying: “We all know we’re in the news right now and of course we appreciate that, but only from both of us, the whole team here, the crew, the guys down below, we’re happy to make this show for all of you.”

Co-presenter Hammond added: “We really do and that’s exactly what we’re going to do, we’ll keep doing that.”

Gyles Brandreth, who was in the studio reviewing the day’s news reports, said: ‘We’re really happy to be here, can I say that too?

‘This is a happy place to work, I love coming here and have done so since I started here. We are happy people in a happy place.”
