If you ever wanted a legitimate excuse to say you missed your alarm, Apple may have just given you one, albeit unintentionally. That's because a number of iPhone users are reporting that their phone alarms aren't going off when they should.
About RedditiPhone users have noted that despite setting alarms on their phones, the actual alarm bell/sound never went off. And apparently these alarms weren't set to reappear, so there shouldn't have been any reason to silence or reset them until they were acknowledged. In these reports, the alarm only turns on the screen, but there is no sound.
It appears this is an iOS 17 issue, with one Redditor noting it has to do with the 'Attention Aware' feature, where the iPhone can detect when you're paying attention to it. It seems that if these alarms don't go off, it could be because iPhones on iOS 17 think their users are looking at the phone and therefore don't need a loud alarm to get their attention.
As an iPhone alarm user on iOS 17, I haven't noticed any issues myself. But when I took a closer look at my iPhone 13 Pro's settings, I discovered that the Attention Aware setting was disabled. Somewhat ironically, I wasn't aware of the option in the first place, as I don't think it was ever brought up to my mind. attention.
Enable alarms
The solution to this lack of iPhone alarms is: consciously switch off Attention, which can be found in a number of places. One of them is located in the Voice Control subsection of the Accessibility settings in iOS 17and the other is the Face ID and attention menu (above).
But Reddit users are taking notice too turning off standby mode on iPhones, reducing the number of alarms Maybe you moved away close to each other, and convert any custom alarm sound to standard soundscan solve the silent alarm problem.
However, these fixes aren't exactly ideal, and I hope Apple can fix such a bug in the next iOS 17 update. After all, I can only imagine that the “my alarm didn't go off” excuse will only work so many times with one's work bosses.
