We’ve heard from multiple sources that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have smaller bezels than their predecessors. One source even suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro Max could have the thinnest bezels of any phone, at just 1.15mm. And now, thanks to a leaked comparison image, we have a good idea of just how much of a difference that could make.
Tasty Apple hub (via NotebookCheck) shared an image on X showing a close-up of the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s bezels compared to those of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
As noted in the image, the previous phone had 1.55mm bezels, and this source agrees with an earlier leak that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have 1.15mm bezels. Now, without an image, it’s hard to get a sense of whether that would actually make much of a difference, but here you can see that the rumored bezels on the iPhone 16 Pro Max are actually noticeably smaller.

A change with a dual purpose
These rumored drop would serve two purposes. First, it would obviously make the iPhone 16 Pro Max look more premium and modern than its predecessor, which will be especially desirable if the iPhone 16 Pro Max ends up costing more than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
But narrowing the bezels could also prevent the iPhone 16 Pro Max from feeling much larger in the hand than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, despite rumors that the device would also have a larger 6.9-inch display.
Obviously, neither the smaller bezels nor the larger screen size have been confirmed at this point, and they won’t be until Apple unveils the phone on September 9. But enough sources have hinted at both changes that we’re fairly confident they’ll happen.
