‘This is the ride of our lives!’: Ryan Reynolds says he is ‘crying tears of joy’ after Wrexham secure League One promotion – as his Hollywood co-owner Rob McElhenney basks in ‘a lovely day’ after their Welsh side’s feat
Wrexham’s Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds basked in their side’s promotion to League One.
The Red Dragons secured back-to-back promotions after beating League Two strugglers Forest Green 6-0 at the Racecourse Ground.
And McElhenney, watching from Los Angeles, couldn’t contain his excitement as he took to social media.
He wrote on X: Hey @m_griffiths92 saw you reading tweets. My son and I just wanted to say hello from Los Angeles. A very beautiful day, eh?
He then added, “No words,” with a heart emoji once the promotion was officially confirmed.
Meanwhile, Reynolds wrote: “If you told me a few years ago that I would be crying tears of joy over a football match in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney.”
“Congratulations to Wrexham and my co-chairman in crime. Double the city! This is the ride of our lives.’
Phil Parkinson’s men were aware that a win against bottom side Forest Green would ensure a second successive promotion.
And the win came in emphatic fashion, with Wrexham going into half-time 4-0 thanks to Elliot Lee’s goal, Paul Mullin’s brace and a Ryan Inniss own goal.
The second half continued in similar fashion, with Ryan Barnett and Jack Marriott. adding another two goals to get the party started.
