- Authorities found the baby in a garbage bag covered in blood and pieces of the placenta.
- Police say the girl was taken to hospital alive and nurses continue to care for her.
This is the moment an abandoned newborn girl was found alive after being dumped on a garbage heap in Indonesia.
The girl was found by a resident as she was returning from the rice fields at Sungai Raya Village in Kubu Raya Regency on Tuesday morning.
The cries of the baby caught the attention of the woman and she hastened to report the finding to the local authorities.
Officials arrived to inspect the garbage bag and found inside a crying child still engulfed in blood and pieces of placenta.
It is believed that she was left there shortly after the mother gave birth and police believe she was less than 12 hours old when they found her.
Officials arrived to rescue the baby, alerted by a resident who heard screaming walking nearby.
The baby was found still covered in blood and pieces of the placenta after being abandoned.
Deputy Inspector Ade, Kubu Raya police chief of public information, said: “Residents found the baby alive here.” They wrapped it in a black plastic bag and threw it in the trash.
‘She was still alive, so they took her to the hospital, where the nurses are taking care of her. She is very lucky. I don’t think she would have survived if the resident hadn’t found her.
The policeman added that this is the sixth case of abandonment in the Kubu Raya Regency in recent months.
The abandoned newborn has been transferred to the Nabasa Maternity Hospital for treatment and monitoring. She will then be placed in the care of the state.
Ade said: ‘We are still conducting an investigation to find out who dumped the innocent baby here. He was still very young, perhaps only a few hours, but no more than half a day.
“We ask neighbors who have information to help us by reporting to the police so that this case can be resolved quickly. They may have seen someone in the area earlier that morning.
