This is my warning to anyone who has carpet in their home – and you’re not going to like it

An Australian mum has shocked the internet after revealing the disgusting truth about carpeting.

The Queensland woman was stunned when she used a carpet shampoo and saw layers of dirt lurking beneath the ‘clean’ exterior.

She has two dogs, a cat and a toddler – and said she only had brand new carpets installed 18 months ago.

The mother vacuums regularly and never expected that her floors would still contain so much dirt, dust, hair and animal fur.

Although it is recommended to have your carpet professionally washed at least once a year, you can use a steam cleaner every week or once every two weeks to keep your home as clean as possible.

The mom revealed that she recently bought a Tineco Carpet One pro from Godfrey’s ($499, marked down from $999) on a whim and decided to test it out.

She shared images of the dirt coming out of her floors on Facebook.

β€œI’m very impressed with using it with the auto feature,” she said.

‘Plus, it has a drying function that sucks up excess water and pumps away heat.’

It is not recommended to leave your carpet wet or damp as mold can develop.

Another mom previously shared a DIY hack to make cheap carpet sprayers at home.

Australian woman Emma said she used to buy branded carpet from the supermarkets for as much as $16, but recently discovered she could make her own carpet for a fraction of the price.

Emma mixed a bag of bi-carb soda with a few tablespoons of her favorite essential oil.

“You can use any essential oil you prefer (be careful with cat and eucalyptus oil and a few others as they cause reactions),” Emma said. ‘For convenience, I just used a measuring spoon to sprinkle it on top.

β€œMuch cheaper than a container of carpet litter that I normally only use once,” she added.

You simply sprinkle the mixture over your carpets, let it sit for 20 minutes and then vacuum as usual.

Emma recommends that you mix the bi-carb soda with whatever essential oil you like, but be careful of things like eucalyptus, which pets can be allergic to.
