The soundtrack for SuperMetroid on the SNES is one of the greats in gaming music, but I didn’t need to tell you that. Compiled by Kenji Yamamoto and Minako Hamano, SuperMetroidAt times eerie or triumphant, the film’s score is full of memorable songs that accompany Samus on a journey to defeat Ridley and other bosses who stand in her way of saving the galaxy. Are Good.
You can try it out by simply playing the game via the Nintendo Switch Online benefit which gives access to classic SNES games. But there’s a much cooler way to listen to it thanks to an artist named Jammin’ Sam Miller, who personally (and very faithfully) restored the soundtrack and then waxed it into this two-record set via WRWTFWW Records. It is available for pre-order via Amazon And Best Buywill cost $39.99 (list price is $45.98) and launch on February 16.
As with buying most vinyl records, part of the appeal is the cover art – and boy, does this one deliver. The artwork of Pierre Thyss looks great, and I can imagine some fans buying this just to display it.
If you’re skeptical about Jammin’ Sam Miller’s recreation, you can check out almost the entire tracklist at YouTube. I think it sounds incredible, just like the artist’s many other recreations. Jammin’ Sam Miller has worked on several other game soundtrack restorations, including the Donkey Kong Land games, Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, The Legend of Zelda: a link to the pastAnd Secret of Mana. Miller occasionally posts live streams on YouTube so viewers can see what the music recovery process looks like.
