Vegas Pro 20 has received a major free update – and uses one of the best tools in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Two months after the initial launch, video editing software takes on a series of new features that aim to “further enhance the power, efficiency and collaboration of the color correction workflow right on the timeline,” said Magix, the developer behind Vegas.
Alongside the latest color correction tools comes a handful of subscriber-only features, including smarter integration between Vegas’ desktop and mobile video editing apps.
What’s New in Vegas Pro 20?
It’s the Color Gradation panel where the most noticeable changes take place. Magix has filled the space with new color correction tools for producing and refining colors. Chief among these are the new color curve picker, which simplifies color selection for adjustments, and the hue and saturation curve.
Designed to give more control over the appearance of their movies, the tool allows users to “change the saturation of everything from the entire video to a very specific hue in the video, and they can de-saturate a specific color to make it look better.” color effect, or pump up the saturation to make a specific color pop,” Magix said.
In the spirit of giving users more control, the Vegas Video Preview window now offers up to 2000x magnification. Ideal, the company says, for fine-tuning color corrections.
Online collaboration has also been improved with the addition of a commenting tool. When users share projects via File Drop, users can use the new text field to provide insights and feedback.
Artificial intelligence continues its technological conquest – but don’t expect Adobe Sensei features here. Instead, Vegas introduces pro AI-generated thumbnails for shared projects, making it easier to find the right clips and generally increasing the efficiency and productivity.
And, for subscribers, comes a large number stock video and audio assets, mobile-to-timeline feature for uploading media from phone to desktop app, and faster file drop service. However, since accessibility is a top priority for videographers, this is the Premiere Pro style speech-to-text tool that stands out. Adobe’s video editor can handle auto-subtitles beautifully thanks to its AI integration, so we’ll be interested to see how well Vegas compares as a alternative to Premiere Pro in this critical area.
