Classic Korean real-time strategy game, Kingdom under attackhas reportedly been “hijacked by a crypto scam company”.
As noted by Twitterer Tegiminis, Steam player Arsene Lupin – who is on a crusade to “write a review for every game in (their) Steam library” – posted a review on the game’s Steam pagereporting that the “future is here, and it sucks” and claiming that while Kingdom under attack “used to beAn “RTS/RPG hybrid launched in 2001”, the current iteration runs “Locus Game Chain” in the background when you try to play, “requiring 80-100% of your CPU”.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the developer, Bloom Technology, responded quickly and posted a wall of text explaining that there was “a misunderstanding” and that the developer has replaced the 22-year-old RTS’s RTS network system – formerly known as wargate.net – with its own Locus Chain.

“This technology will be a springboard and an excellent example of how online game developers, who sometimes go out of business due to high server maintenance costs, can save tons of money and focus on building the games,” said the developer. “Old online games can be revived at no significant cost, while modern online games can also significantly reduce their maintenance costs.
“As far as we know, Kingdom under attack is the first successful attempt to deploy and use a blockchain node as part of the game, so I understand this is both misleading and unprecedented. Kingdom under attack was launched for free through Early Access due to the need to test the environment in real time. You can see the progress we’ve made so far and the track record in the Updates section on Steam to gauge how we’re actually using this new technology.

Interestingly, the game currently sits at an overall Steam user score of “Very Positive” – albeit from just 150 reviews – although another unhappy player suspects their problem with the game is a little more succinct than Arsene Lupine, simply saying this in their review: “Blockchain go home”.
Bloom Technology says: “Kingdom Under Attack: War of Heroes uses Locus Game Chain to provide online multiplayer capabilities without the need for an online game server. The game does not support cryptocurrencies or NFTs and complies with all Steam guidelines and regulations.
”
There’s seemingly no mention of blockchain in the game’s About section or system requirements.
