This breathtaking family home has been described as ‘heaven on the Gold Coast’ – here’s why people can’t stay away
A stunning Gold Coast home has risen to the top of property wish lists across the country after being put up for auction for the first time.
The stunning photos of the home, which sits on the slopes of Mount Nathan in the Gold Coast Hinterland, ‘don’t do it justice’, say those lucky enough to see it in person.
Aptly named ‘Poorinda’ after a stunning variety of Grevilia, a sprawling native Australian shrub with unique flowers, the house has a natural, flowering charm.
The enormous main house and extensive outbuildings are set in a beautiful plot of 3.58 hectares and can sleep up to 22 people.
Kerri-Lea Harris told FEMAIL that she and her family have called Poorinda home for 24 years, after the mother first discovered this heavenly spot on the hill.
Now that her family has grown, she rents most of it out through Airbnb and Stayz, where it brings in more than $1,500 a night.
The estate has several buildings, including a three-bedroom house, a loft villa, a studio and a separate two-bedroom cottage.
Each home has panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges, which create a particularly beautiful view at sunset.
The 25 meter long competition pool offers a beautiful view and really comes into its own at sunset
The huge deck provides a great space for entertaining, connecting each building and making the estate feel less spread out
It feels like the house is in the middle of nowhere, yet only 20 kilometers from the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast
A relaxing and beautiful poolside entertainment area is an ideal place to spend sunny days on the Gold Coast
The attractive bedrooms open onto the carefully landscaped gardens with a large guest terrace and a striking 25 metre infinity pool.
“The pool was inspired by the brining of water in the mountains of the countryside,” Ms Harris told FEMAIL.
The plot has its own fenced paddocks, dams, a circular garden and horse stables.
The beautiful photographs capture the relaxed, earthy style of the Harris family, who have taken the time and effort to make the property feel like home.
The spacious interior is flanked by large glass windows and doors and finished with wooden floorboards, slate, natural stone, fireplaces and even exposed wooden beams on the ceiling.
A separate terrace provides a charming setting for al fresco dining, with hills merging into mountain ranges

Exposed wooden beams create warm and cozy interior spaces that transition effortlessly to the outdoors
The kitchen in the villa has charming slate tiles and a comfortable dining and sitting area
Balinese furniture and soft throws in rich colors give the space a warm and friendly charm.
The atmosphere is described as ‘earthy, comfortable, open and cozy at the same time’.
After a loving renovation of the property, a wooden deck and a spa were added, followed by the barn and stables.
Finished with blond wooden floorboards and large wooden beds with white sheets, the elegant and airy villa has a modern Balinese feel.
The villa features four beautiful bedrooms, the most stylish of which is located in the attic, and three full bathrooms.

This four poster bed is just one of many with spacious accommodation that can accommodate 22 people
All bedrooms offer beautiful views of the mountains or the perfectly maintained property
The sleek upstairs bedroom in the loft has beautifully appointed nooks with private sleeping areas
The billiards room, located right next to one of the several dining areas, is a great place for family and friends to gather
One bathroom has a deep bath for a relaxing bath and is decorated with antique, monochrome tiles.
It is a perfect place for easy and relaxed living, with many hidden corners for peace and quiet.
The impressive terraces, balconies and patios offer plenty of space for relaxation, inspiration and reflection, while enjoying the beautiful view and surroundings.
The design brief was to “preserve the charm of the country in a modern way with antiques and Aboriginal artwork,” Kerri-Lea said.
The stylish interior and natural surroundings create an elevated and relaxing living experience and visitors to the home often tell Kerri-Lea that the property is truly astonishing.
Kerri-Lea describes the ever-changing gloom through the days and seasons as the most special thing about Poorinda.
Modern glass windows open to the dramatic views of the hinterland
The interiors all take advantage of the beautiful views surrounding the estate
The spa has led many future residents to dream of nights under the stars
The stables are an attraction for all horse lovers and were built by the family
“The pictures don’t do it justice,” she said, describing the beauty and tranquility of the property.
The expansive outdoor spaces are reminiscent of a resort, with exotic trees, paved paths and enormous potted plants.
The relaxed and spacious character of the exterior of the houses flows effortlessly into the interior spaces of the houses via the verandas, terraces and patios.
Kerri-Lea’s vision of ‘creating a space that all extended families can enjoy’ is one that she has realised.
The hidden mountain enclave of Mount Nathan feels a world away, yet is a 30-minute drive from the Gold Coast with its famous beaches, glitzy locals and bustling designer shopping mecca Pacific Fair.
Wine lovers will enjoy the local Mount Nathan Winery, featuring Tamborine Mountain Botanical Gardens are also close by.
The beautiful, expansive home was also one of the first Australian properties to be rented through Airbnb and has hosted weddings and events on the property.
