The Verona Police Department responded to a request for assistance for a stolen vehicle from the North Caldwell Police Department shortly after midnight Sunday.

The car was found on the outskirts of Verona through a tracking system on Hilltop Drive. Officer McMahon, whose first name was not released, located the vehicle and called for backup.

Photos released by the two departments show the car with the entire front bumper torn off.

The crash caused property damage to the home’s balcony and damaged one of the owner’s cars.

The driver, who was not identified, escaped the accident and fled on foot, but was later apprehended. The female passenger was found near the wreckage and taken into the custody of North Caldwell Police.

Both were taken to the hospital for medical evaluations.

The two police departments are now advising residents to “lock your vehicles and remove your key fob.”
