Arsenal legend Thierry Henry couldn’t resist a criticism of their north London rivals Tottenham at the FIFA Best Awards ceremony in London.

Henry had shared hosting duties for the awards at the Hammersmith Apollo with presenter and presenter Reshmin Chowdhury.

The former Arsenal, Barcelona and France striker was forced to accept Lionel Messi’s FIFA Best Men’s Player award on his behalf as Argentina was absent from the ceremony.

“Someone’s going to have to take the trophy away,” Henry said. ‘I actually have two reasons for taking it.

“I never won it, so I’ll keep it.”

Henry then added to Chowdhury: ‘You’re a Tottenham fan aren’t you?’, which his co-host confirmed.

“That’s the other reason, as you don’t normally get your hands on a trophy, so I’ll take this.”

Henry’s cheeky joke about Tottenham’s trophy drought, which dates back to their 2008 League Cup win, drew laughter and applause from the crowd at the venue.

Tottenham remain in contention to win the FA Cup this season, unlike the Gunners, who lost to Liverpool in the third round.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s team had to deal with a difficult draw in the fourth round at home against Manchester City at the end of this month.

Arsenal and Spurs are currently level on points in the Premier League, with the rivals sitting five points behind leaders Liverpool.
