Thiago Silva ‘is ready to GIVE UP his final season at Chelsea and finish his career with Fluminense’

Thiago Silva ‘is ready to GIVE UP his last season at Chelsea and finish his career at youth club Fluminense’ – despite signing a new Blues deal in February – with the defender ‘already deciding he wants to return to Brazil’

  • Thiago Silva signed a contract extension with Chelsea in February this year
  • However, Silva has become frustrated with the situation at Chelsea and regrets it
  • The veteran defender, 38, is looking to terminate his contract and return to Fluminense

Thiago Silva is reportedly pushing to leave Chelsea for the summer so he can return to Brazil and play for his boyhood club Fluminense.

The veteran defender, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 under Thomas Tuchel, has become frustrated with the situation at Stamford Bridge.

According to Globo EsporteSilva regrets his decision to sign a one-year contract extension with Chelsea in February.

The Brazilian News Center reports that Silva wants to tear up his contract with Chelsea at the end of the 2022-2023 season and sign for Fluminense.

In addition, Silva is said to be good friends with Marcelo and was tempted by the 35-year-old to return to the club, which is second in Brazil’s Serie A.

Fluminense’s president Mario Bittencourt and former striker Fred have also contacted Silva to encourage him to sign with the club before his retirement.

Silva has spoken of his desire to return to Brazilian club Fluminense and win the Copa Libertadores before hanging up his boots.

Before moving to Europe with AC Milan in 2009, Silva spent three years with Brazil’s top club, making 143 appearances and winning the Copa do Brasil.

“If I told you I’m not thinking about it, I’d be lying to you,” Silva told TNT Sports when questioned about a possible return to Fluminense.

“It’s something I think about, I’ve talked to my wife about it a few times. If you have a long career in Europe, your children grow up in Europe, this decision is difficult.

“I have a dream to return to wear the Fluminense shirt, everyone knows my wish. But it’s something I prefer to leave in the future to see how it goes.’

Therefore, it would come as no surprise if Silva ended his contract early this summer and left Stamford Bridge after becoming frustrated with Chelsea’s owners.

Silva fell down the Chelsea hierarchy after the team’s lackluster exit from the Champions League in April this year.

The veteran defender made a disappointed impression on the pitch after the final whistle when he was comforted by interim manager Frank Lampard.

After the match, Silva spoke out about the ‘wrong move’ taken by the owners, saying the team’s demise could not be blamed solely on their managers.

“I think the first step has been taken. A wrong move, but it’s been made,’ Silva began. “We can’t blame the managers if we don’t take responsibility. It is a tough period for the club, with a lot of indecision.

“Transfer of ownership, arrival of new players – we had to enlarge the dressing room because it didn’t fit the size of the squad.”

Silva’s reference to space issues for Chelsea’s unwieldy 30-plus squad was previously reported by Mail Sport.

“There will always be someone upset because not everyone can play,” Silva said. “The manager can only choose 11 from a squad of 30, which is difficult.

“Some can’t make the squad, we signed eight in January, we have to stop and strategize or we could make the same mistakes next season.”
