The unknown man was scheduled to depart Rio de Janeiro on Friday evening and land in Miami early Saturday morning on Flight 9948.
But before the flight could take off, he reportedly suffered a meltdown for unknown reasons.
He had to be restrained on the plane by an American Airlines crew member and four passengers before security arrived.

According to Local 10 Newsno arrests have been made as of today afternoon.
One passenger told the station she was shocked when she heard about the incident.
āThat's very nerve-wracking, that's crazy what's happening you know,ā said the unknown traveler.
