Alan Wake 2, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the KingdomBaldur's Gate 3, And Super Mario Bros. Miracle have a chance to win the grand prize of Game of the Year from The Game Awards. And tonight we'll find out who takes first place – and who wins in a whole host of different categories. Both Baldur's Gate 3 And Alan Wake2 leads the pack with eight nominations in all categories, followed by Marvel's Spider-Man 2 with seven, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom And Super Mario Bros. Miracle at five o'clock, and Resident Evil 4 with three.
It's a big year for Nintendo, with a total of 15 nominations. PlayStation follows with 13; Xbox with 10; Epic games with nine; Capcom, Larian and Square Enix all with eight; Electronic Arts with six; and CD Projekt Red and Riot Games with four nominations. Noticeably absent from most categories, however, is Bethesda Softworks' Starfieldwhich received only one nomination in the best role-playing game category.
The Game Awards will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on December 7. In addition to the awards, Keighley is also expected to debut a host of video game trailers. While 2023 has seen an undeniably high number of video game releases, it has also been a difficult year for the industry and its employees; More than 6,000 people have been laid off from video game jobs this year.
