This Microsoft Teams update might solve one of your biggest office problems

Finding the files you need in Microsoft Teams should soon be easier than ever thanks to a new addition to the platform.

The video conferencing service is preparing the launch of a new app that will make it easier to find and manage all documents, spreadsheets and more for Microsoft Teams.

The launch should address one of the major pain points for Microsoft Teams users frantically searching for the right file or document to consult or send during a conversation, rather than providing a single hub with everything you need .

Microsoft Teams app for files

In its entry in the official Microsoft 365 roadmap (opens in new tab)describes the new Files app for Microsoft Teams as “one place for all your content for chats, channels, meetings and M365”.

While there isn’t much concrete information yet about what the new app will look like or how it will work, the entry notes that users can “manage, organize, and locate the content you need quickly and easily.”

Users also get a more consistent and familiar way of searching, which will hopefully put an end to endless menus and confusing file options.

The new app is tentatively listed as “in development,” with a planned general availability date of January 2023, so hopefully users won’t have to wait too long. Currently it is only being worked on for desktop users, but if it proves to be a success, it will undoubtedly be rolled out to other platforms as well.

The news is the latest file sharing update for Microsoft Teams to make it a much easier platform to use in a work environment.

In a similar vein, Microsoft recently added the ability to delete or rename files in a channel and in your OneDrive folder in Teams. This should mean that users of the company’s cloud storage system will have a much easier time finding and modifying the files they need most within Teams and making sure they’re labeled the way they want.
