There is confusion over the future of an ABC program after the host claimed it would not be renewed

The ABC has yet to make a decision on the future of its prime time interview show The ABC Of – after the host previously announced it had been axed.
The show’s host, David Wenham, tweeted Monday: “Thanks for the amazing response to The ABC Of interview series.
“Unfortunately, the ABC has decided today to discontinue the series.”
However, Wenham has since backtracked on his tweet, admitting he had ‘jumped the gun’.
“Looks like I’ve jumped the gun – a spot of miscommunication yes – the final decision is yet to be made on ABC Of,” he tweeted Tuesday with a cross-fingered emoji.
The ABC has used the program, which ran for two seasons, to broadcast interviews with Ita Buttrose, Julia Gillard, John Howard and Wendy Harmer.

TV tonight reported that episodes in the final season drew about 300,000 viewers in the capitals.
The description of the program read: ‘Famous Australians delve deep into their past to discover hidden gems from the archive, exploring how they have changed Australia and how Australia has changed them.’
Tennis champion Evonne Goolagong Cawley and comedian Wil Anderson were also some of the guests on the series.
The highest viewership of the series was in an episode with Germaine Greer, which attracted 389,000 viewers.
The ABC of airs on Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m.
Harmer replied to Wenham’s tweet, writing, “All the best with it…it was a fun (if a little terrifying at first) experience.”
The ABC has been contacted for further comment.
