The Woolworths employee lists annoying customer habits

A Woolworths deli employee has named nine things that “irritate” her about “rude” customers.

While working, she “grinds her teeth” when customers order ask for ‘fresh sliced ham’ just before closing time and speak to the counter on the phone.

“I’ve been working in the deli for almost six years now,” the woman said in a series of TikTok videos.

“And these are just some of the things customers do that sharpen my gears.”

A spokesperson for Woolworths responded to the video, telling Daily Mail Australia it is disappointing.

“This is a bit disappointing to see, and we will be in touch with the team member,” the spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

The Woolworths deli employee shared the confessions in a series of TikTok videos

In two videos, she listed each bullet point and explained her reasoning, citing some of the confessions as controversial.

1. When customers get their kids to speak for them

First, the employee says she finds it annoying when parents allow their children to order the delicacies when the staff member has to talk to the child.

“This annoys me for many reasons because not only are you making your child uncomfortable, you are making me uncomfortable,” the TikToker said.

“Because I can’t hear a word your child is saying, the child won’t talk to me. It’s just annoying everywhere.’

2. Want ham sliced right before we close

The employee then targeted customers requesting sliced ham just before the store was about to close.

“The rudeness of some customers,” she said.

“They come five minutes before we close and say, ‘Can I have 500 grams of this?’ And there’s only 100 grams in the bowl, and they’re like, “Can you scoop me some more?”

3. Talk on the phone

The employee also thinks it’s rude for customers to be on the phone while ordering from the deli, claiming she’s been “shut down” multiple times.

“Talk on the phone when they come to the deli—and then they silence you when you ask them if they’re done or when you greet them.” No,’ she said.

“Or even worse, if they pick up the phone halfway through the order and then ask you, ‘Anything else?’ they will silence you…even though they answered the phone half way through the order. I can not do it.’

4. When you greet them and they ignore you

The employee also claims she is ignored by customers when greeting them at the counter, which she finds “so rude.”

“So you’re like, ‘Hey, how are you?’ And they… or they start ordering right away, no hello back, no how are you,” she said.

Or they just ignore you outright and keep looking.

“And I just stand there and go, ‘Hello?’ Usually I just say “Oh, are you just watching?” and walk away because it’s just so rude!’

5. When they yell at you

Not only has she been silenced, she also claims to have been verbally abused on occasion.

“If they walk up and they’ve been there for 0.2 seconds and they say ‘Hello?’ And yell at you? Oh, don’t even try me,’ the employee said.

6. Ask for freshly sliced ham

Despite offering sliced ham at the deli, the employee claims that the customer always requests that the cured meat be “cut fresh.”

“So you just cut some ham straight, you put it in the cupboard,” the Woolies employee said in the second of her controversial videos.

“Customer comes forward: ‘Can I have 500 grams of that ham?” Yeah right. “But can you cut it fresh for me?”

‘[I tell them I] just did it five minutes ago. [And they say] “Yes, but I like fresh cut.”

“I can’t tell you how much that irritates me. Or if they go, ‘Can you pass me that ham, but can you cut it thicker or thinner for me?’

“Like, I get it, but I don’t know. Stop.’

7. Break off a piece because it is 5g more than the requested weight

Sometimes the employee serves “picky” customers who need the exact weight they asked for,

If they’re that picky. Like, I get it if you go over 100g or 200g. But if it’s 5g to 10g left and they say ‘Hmmm, a little less’. And you have to break the ham,’ she said.

‘If you take out a slice of ham, for example, it’s too much. So you have to break off a piece.

“I’m like, it’s literally like an extra 5 cents. You know?’

8. Kids yelling at you for smiley fritz

Smiley fritz is an Australian classic snack and the Woolies employee says both children and parents have sometimes yelled at her.

“Now this one gets me, because as a non-childish person… I really don’t like kids. I’m not a child at all,” she said.

“So if they yell at you ‘Can I have a piece of Smiley Fritz? Can I have a piece of Smiley Fritz?’

“I just want to say, ‘No. No that is not possible.’ And their parents just yell at you, and I mean yell. And you just think, “What’s going on here?”

9. When They Say Pick Any Ham

Finally, she also finds it annoying when customers ask her to choose a ham from the whole range on the counter.

“This one really hits me. When they order and go, “Can I have $2 of any ham,” the worker claimed.

“And I’m like, there’s a whole variety here. I say ‘There are a few here’ and they say ‘Yes, whatever you think.’

“I really hate that because I don’t know what you like. We can like very different things. So what do you want?! I don’t want to choose you!

“It happens way too often.”

Despite the unbelievable claims, other delis on TikTok agreed with her.

“I work in the deli at Coles and 1000% yes! Also me and my colleagues are constantly laughing about the fact that there are two types of customers,” one person wrote in the comments of the video.

‘THIS. And if they start yelling at you about the prices of something in a completely different department. Like it looks like I did?’ said another.
