The Wire creator David Simon calls Marjorie Taylor Greene a ‘submoronic pratfall of a human being’ for questioning whether the Baltimore bridge collapse was ‘intentional’ and demanding an ‘investigation’

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a veteran Baltimore journalist and creator of The Wire, called Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene “submoronic” for suggesting the tragic bridge collapse was “intentional.”

Responding to a message from the far-right Georgia lawmaker, David Simon reiterated that it was “port operations” and “bridge maintenance” that led to the Francis Scott Key Bridge falling after a shipping container crashed into a support structure on Tuesday.

Rep. Greene posted on X, formerly Twitter, calling for a “serious investigation” into the “horrific tragedy.”

“Is this a deliberate attack or an accident?” The congresswoman wondered in her post amid questions whether the bridge collapse was a terrorist attack.

Simon responded with, “Are you intentional or just an accident? You complete a man’s submoronic pratfall.’

Representative Greene was among those who promoted a conspiracy on social media that the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and shipping container crash was either a “terrorist attack” or an “inside job.”

The man who created the Baltimore-based crime drama The Wire responded on social media Tuesday to a series of posts claiming the crash was intentional or an inside job.

“Idiot, port facilities and operations, interstate bridge maintenance, etc. have nothing at all to do with the governance of Baltimore, but are all state functions,” he said in one X response.

“To immediately politicize this is for empty, fact-free hacks,” Simon added.

Harrowing footage captured the moment Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being struck by a freighter, leaving five vehicles submerged and six construction workers missing.

Police said Tuesday morning, when asked by media, that there was nothing to indicate the collision was intentional.

Maryland authorities are using sonar detection equipment to search for the crew members who fell into 47F water while repairing holes in the 180-foot bridge when it collapsed.

Simon has posted several times on X to counter conspiracies that the bridge collapse was intentional

Governor Wes Moore declared a state of emergency Tuesday morning after the catastrophic collision, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. The ship, the Singapore-flagged Dali, had been sailing for 20 minutes when it struck a support column on the bridge.

The Democrat said the ship’s crew managed to issue a Mayday before it crashed into the bridge, allowing officials to prevent cars from entering the bridge.

“We are grateful that between the Mayday and the collapse – that we had officials who were able – to begin to stop the flow of traffic so that there were no more cars on the bridge,” Moore added .
