Fan favorite Gina Chick was crowned the winner of Alone Australia at Wednesday night’s gripping season finale.
The 52-year-old bushcraft teacher looked absolutely stunned after being told she narrowly beat Michael Atkinson to be crowned the show’s inaugural winner.
The NSW native got philosophical as she discussed her approach to surviving 67 days in the remote Tasmanian wilderness.
“I haven’t been focused on beating other people or winning. I am focused every day on meeting my needs,” she said.
“There is a way to be at home in the wild. It’s not about dominating nature, but about connecting with an ancestral way of being.’

Only Australia has been heralded as the most authentic reality series to ever hit the small screen.
More than 10,000 people have signed up for the series, which is already a blockbuster in the United States, where it airs on the History channel.
Some contestants barely lasted a day during the first Australian season, while others stayed out for months.

The show follows a cast of individual self-reliance experts as they brave the elements and fight to stay alive on their own terms, with nothing but what they carry on their backs.
The players’ mission is “to live alone in the wild for as long as possible, documenting their journey every step of the way.”
There are no camera crews or field producers, but players film themselves using tripods and GoPro cameras.

The Down Under edition was filmed in Tasmania with a cash prize of $250,000.
“There’s nothing like Tasmania’s environment,” SBS said in a statement.
“It’s cold, it’s wet. There is a lot of flora and fauna, which is so unique to Australia that it doesn’t necessarily resemble other international versions of Alone.’
SBS is currently casting for season two.
