The White House trashes the MEDIA during the Biden documents debacle for wanting to ‘draw attention’ and ‘stir up controversy’ when they ask Karine Jean-Pierre questions, and get very limited answers
- The phenomenon occurs ‘in every presidency,’ spokesman Ian Sams said
- He was asked about calls to answer questions about documents on camera.
- Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has repeatedly referred questions to the DOJ
- Special counsel is investigating document discoveries at Biden’s home and office
The White House on Monday accused members of the media of trying to extract daily disclosures about President Joe Biden’s possession of classified documents for their own gain, amid pressure for them to provide straight on-camera answers about the state of the matter.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faced calls to reveal more details about the documents discovered at Biden’s Wilmington home on Friday as she once again referred a series of questions to the Justice Department, to despite the efforts of reporters to force explanations about how many documents were found and why they were there.
Another White House official, Ian Sams, who has been speaking on behalf of the White House counsel amid the special counsel’s escalating investigation, faced similar demands Monday in an off-camera ‘zoom’ setting.
“In every presidency, you know, there are a lot of people in the media trying to create controversy for attention or…or camera time,” he scolded, when asked about the criticism and whether he himself would provide a briefing on camera. (He sat down for an MSNBC interview early Monday.)
His barrage came a day when Jean-Pierre was questioned about whether Biden was “surprised” by the latest discovery of documents following the FBI search on Friday.
President Joe Biden has answered some questions about document discoveries at his home and in Penn Biden’s office. But the White House has been referring a series of questions about classified materials found there to the Justice Department.
“The underlying problem that we are talking about here is that as soon as the president’s personal team noticed something, they immediately, quickly and transparently reported it to the proper authorities,” he continued. ‘They noticed a document with a classified mark; they immediately contacted the proper authorities and since that time, they have been and we as the White House have been fully cooperative with proper reviews throughout this process. That’s what we’re talking about,’ he insisted.
Sams, who took up his new role before facing intense Republican investigations in the House, said the office tried to provide “public information as appropriate, consistent with that ongoing investigation to respect the integrity of that investigation,” repeating the refrain Biden to seek an independent DOJ.
He also gave Donald Trump a veiled look and said: “And I know, for a lot of you who have been covering this for the last few years especially, that may be a foreign concept.”
His slap came one day when Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy nearly teased Jean-Pierre by asking, “When you found out that the FBI located even more classified materials in Wilmington, what four-letter word did you use? “
“Oh my gosh,” she replied.
The White House press secretary referenced a separate off-camera briefing when asked questions about the documents Monday.
‘When you found out that the FBI located even more classified materials in Wilmington, what four-letter word did you use?’ asked Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy.
Photographs of the entrance to President Joe Biden’s lakefront home in Wilmington, DE. FBI agents searched the facility on Friday. There are calls to search for Biden’s beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
He made other efforts to try to get her out of his conversation topics, just as reporters at CBS News, ABC, NBC and other outlets have done.
Peter Doocy wanted to know if there was “a precedent for people running for president after the FBI searched their sock drawer.” — in a reference to the 13-hour search, which the White House counsel’s office said included every room in Biden’s home.
That didn’t elicit much of a reaction from Jean-Pierre either. This is what the president is going to focus on. He’s going to focus on continuing to deliver for the American people. That is his approach. That’s what he focuses on every day, ”Jean-Pierre replied.
