On Sunday, four-time Grammy winner The Weeknd revealed that he has contributed a new song to the soundtrack for Avatar: The Way Of Water by exchange a 12 second clip of a choral melody with battle drums.

The 32-year-old Canadian son of Ethiopian immigrants, who was last seen performing at SoFi Stadium on November 26, captioned the trailer with the highly-anticipated sequel’s release date: ‘12.16.22’.

That same day, Avatar producer Jon Landau tweeted a snapshot of himself with The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) captioned: “As the Na’vi say, ‘Zola’u nìprrte’ soaiane Avatar”… Welcome to the Avatar family.”

The Avatar: The Way Of Water soundtrack was composed by Simon Franglen who, with James Horner, created the first Avatar soundtrack and produced the Titanic theme song My Heart Will Go On.
