Washington D.C. cop is accused of tipping off Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio about his arrest – saying he “personally supports” the group and doesn’t want their “name or reputation dragged through the mud”

A senior police officer has been charged after tipping off Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio about his arrest in the weeks before the January 6 Capitol riots.
Lt. Shane Lamond of the Metropolitan Police exchanged several messages before the 2021 attack, even telling him that he “personally supports” the extremist group
Lamond was responsible for monitoring groups such as the Proud Boys as they came to Washington for protests, and had served as an intelligence officer for the city’s police department.
He is charged with obstructing an investigation into Tarrio’s destruction of a Black Lives Matter banner in December 2020.
The top officer is charged with making false and misleading statements to federal law enforcement regarding the investigation.

Lamond was indicted by a grand jury in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on one count of obstruction of justice and three counts of making false statements.
He worked as the intelligence division supervisor of MPD’s Homeland Security Bureau and was in regular contact with Tarrio from July 2019 to January 2021.
The indictment alleges that in July 2020, Lamond began using Telegram to leak information to Tarrio about police activity surrounding the Proud Boys.
Messages released in the indictment show Lamond and Tarrio discussing the January 6 riots, with the lieutenant saying, “Of course I can’t say it officially, but personally I support all of you and I don’t want the name or reputation of your group is affected. through the mud. ‘
Lamond further confirmed that those present at the riot would be charged with a crime and told several law enforcement officers that it was common practice for Tarrio to “fish” for information.
He claimed it was “more one-sided” for Tarrio to inform Lamond of the Proud Boys’ plans and movements.
