The Voice UK final: Anthonia Edwards, 25, – a nurse from London is crowned the WINNER

Anthonia Edwards was crowned champion of The Voice’s eleventh series on Saturday night after being mentored during the show by Sir Tom Jones.

The star – whose winner single Everyone is Out Now – is a 25-year-old Registered Nurse from Blackheath, London, and has also landed a recording contract with EMI.

Sir Tom supported Anthonia to victory throughout the match, earning the Welsh singing legend his third The Voice UK coaching win.

However, in her latest duet with Sir Tom, she said she almost forgot her words due to nerves.

She said The sun: ‘There was a moment when I got stabbed because I almost forgot my lines. I don’t think people noticed when I first styled it, but it was a close call.’

Anthonia said after her win: ‘Winning The Voice was unexpected, but really welcome at this stage of my life.

“Since I’m a Registered Nurse, but I get to discover this side of myself now, it’s really cool and I’m super grateful for the opportunity. I look forward to the journey ahead.’

Sir Tom Jones added: ‘I am so proud to crown this year’s winner Anthonia! Her voice and talent rose above a highly competitive field and speaks for itself, so I’m not surprised she’s our Series 11 winner.

“When I first heard her in the blinds, I knew she had something very special; getting the chance to work with her has been nothing but joy from start to finish.

“She deserves a lot of respect for both her abilities and her work ethic, so I’m looking forward to her future. If she ever needs advice or even a chat, I’m here to help, if I can.’

Hosted by Emma Willis, the series saw coaches Sir Tom, will.i.am, Olly Murs and Anne-Marie return together for a second year to hunt for the UK’s next singing sensation, back in the famous revolving chairs and in front of a packed studio audience.

After an emotional first performance of Katy Perry’s Unconditionally in the Blind Auditions, Anthonia impressed the coaches and secured an elusive turn of 4 seats before selecting Sir Tom, who turned first, to guide her through the rest of the to coach competition.

Anthonia impressed the coaches in The Callbacks with her performance of U2’s Pride (In The Name of Love) and in the semifinals with her rendition of Kesha’s Praying, joining fellow finalists Naomi Johnson (Team Will), Mark Howard (Team Anne-Marie), and David Adeogun (Team Olly) to compete for the crown.

In the final, the four coaches take the stage for a dazzling performance by Emeli Sande’s Shine.

Viewers were also treated to a performance by The Voice UK 2021 winner Craig Eddie, who sang his latest single The Outside.

Each of the four finalists then battled for the crown with Mark Howard playing Ariana Grande, David Adeogun playing Gerry and the Pacemakers, Naomi Johnson playing Christina Aguilera, before Anthonia playing Billie Eilish.

The lucky final four also got the unique opportunity to do a duet with their coaches. Mark Howard and Anne-Marie take the stage to perform Spice Girls, Naomi Johnson and will.i.am sang Beyonce, David Adeogun and Olly Murs performed Elton John, followed by Anthonia and Sir Tom singing James Brown.

The studio and virtual audience then voted in David Adeogun and Anthonia Edwards to sing one last time.

With David performing their unique renditions of Diamonds by Rihanna and Everyone by Justin Bieber, their respective winner’s singles, the audience made their final decision of the evening and voted Anthonia the winner of The Voice UK 2022.

At the recording, everyone said to Anthonia: ‘It was a lot of fun covering this Justin Bieber song, and it’s great that I get to do it this way.

“I loved working on the arrangements and feeling like it’s my version of the song.

I wanted to make something based on Justin, but it’s also my own version, and I’m just excited about what’s going to happen musically.”
