Rita Ora has revealed what really went on behind the scenes during her very first Oscar appearance in 2015.

The 32-year-old Voice Australia judge was invited to perform her hit song Grateful at the much-talked about awards after earning a nomination for Best Original Song.

While footage shows the British pop sensation posing confidently on stage, Rita has admitted she’s secretly struggled with crippling stage fright.

Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of The Voice, Rita recalled how she was so nervous she threw up just before stepping on stage.

“I was nominated for Song of the Year at the Oscars and I couldn’t believe it. It’s the Oscars, it’s like c’mon! I’ve been watching it since I was a kid,” she recalls.

“So every nominated song performed — live TV, over a billion people. My nerves really got the better of me, I think. Two seconds before I went out, I threw up.’

At the time, Rita had only become famous thanks to the breakthrough success of her songs Hot Right Now and RIP

She continued, “I just remember looking at the crowd and the lights just went on me. And I just closed my eyes and I sang.”

“I was nominated for Song of the Year at the Oscars and I couldn't believe it.  It's the Oscars, it's like c'mon!  I've been watching it since I was a kid,

Rita said she remembered her legs shaking so violently that her heels clicked together.

“I can’t watch the performance to this day because it just evokes all those feelings,” she admitted, before happily adding, “It was fun!”

Since then, Rita has performed countless shows around the world for billions of fans.

Her next big show is on the at the closing ceremony of Prince Harry’s Invictus 2003 Play next month in Düsseldorf, Germany.
