Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines and The View’s Ana Navarro led the charge as the talk show hosts unanimously called out Ivanka Trump for her “offensive” and “tone deaf” claim about championing her father Donald’s $250 million fraud trail would cause ‘unwarranted fraud’. hardship’.
On Thursday, a New York judge rejected Ivanka’s legal maneuver to prevent him from taking the stand next week over “child care issues.”
The mother of three had argued that testifying would cause “undue hardship” as the scheduled testimony falls in the middle of a school week.
But the claim failed to resonate with the panel as Whoopi, 67, sparked the debate with a sarcastic retelling of Ivanka’s concerns.
The View’s Whoopi Goldberg mocked Ivanka Trump for her attempt to avoid standing up for her father Donald’s $250 million fraud scheme
The mother-of-three had argued that testifying would cause her “undue hardship” because it would take place in the middle of a school week.
She said: ‘A judge didn’t believe Ivanka’s claim that she couldn’t come to New York because of ‘childcare issues.’ The judge said, “I don’t think that’s going to work, honey.”
Ana, 51, then stated: ‘Ivanka gets no sympathy from me – and from most American women and men who have to balance all kinds of duties.
“Girl, I fly back and forth between Miami and New York at least twice a week and I don’t have a private jet or $2 billion from the Saudis. I think you can do it for one day.’
She continued: “There are women who show up in court pregnant, there are people who have to appear and balance their work duties.
“She has the resources. She was at Kim Kardashian’s birthday a few weeks ago. She traveled all over the world when she was in the White House and the children were even smaller.”
The outspoken commentator then added: ‘Don’t these children also have a father who can take care of them on a school day?’
Sara, 46, agreed, saying, “When I saw this I thought it wasn’t jury duty. You are being summoned by a court.”
She then compared Ivanka’s claim to the scene in 30 Rock where Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon dresses up as Princess Leia in an attempt to avoid jury duty.
“You’re not Liz Lemon looking like Princess Leia to get out,” she said. “Are there thirty rock fans here?”
The journalist continued, “All I could think about is the world trip she took when she took her position in the White House. She would be gone for seven to nine days.
“She said she can’t answer the subpoena because it’s during the school week. The children go to school full time, when she traveled around the world one of them was one year old. I don’t understand her reasoning. It’s tone deaf. It’s insulting to say that.’
The claim was immediately dismissed during Friday’s edition of the daytime show by Ana Navarro
Sara Haines also expressed her disapproval as she called Ivanka’s attempt “offensive” and “tone deaf”
Co-host Sunny Hostin then claimed that the behavior was expected from a member of the ‘Trump family crime organization’.
She explained, “The only person who appears to be unharmed is Ivanka Trump. She’s the one whose husband got the $2 billion, but it’s never credited to her – the $2 billion from the Saudis you referred to.
‘She’s the one who’s not involved in the lawsuit. She’s the one who, when she worked at the White House, made $172 million. She is the one who received more than ten patents from China while working in the White House.”
When a visibly shocked Sara asked how Ivanka was “going to make that much money,” Sunny replied, “It’s a great question, Sara. She was never involved.
“In a civil case you can plead the fifth, because if something you say can and will be used against you in a criminal case, you don’t want to testify.”
She continued, “If she testifies that she was somewhat involved in some way – we saw her with the student. She got out of the helicopter. She could say something that would lead to criminal liability. That’s why she’s trying to become mother of the year.’
Elsewhere in the conversation, Whoopi claimed that Ivanka had been able to avoid implications so far because she can be “left out of everything” as the “favorite child.”
Ivanka’s team has argued that she should not be forced to testify because she moved from New York to Florida and left her role in the Trump Organization.
Judge Arthur Engoron, who is overseeing the case, had already ordered Ivanka to testify in the case, while her lawyers asked an appeals court to overturn the decision.
Her lawyers invoke her role as a mother to try to avoid the stand.
‘Mrs. Trump, who lives in Florida with her three minor children, will suffer undue hardship if she is denied residency and has to testify at the New York trial in the middle of a school week, in a case for which she has already been dismissed. before her appeal is heard,” her attorney wrote in the appeal seeking to block the order to testify.
But Judge Arthur Engoron has pointed to documents that still point to ownership and management ties to justify her participation in the case.
He refused a motion from her legal team to stay his decision while she appeals it to a higher court.
The latest legal wrangling came at the end of a day involving Trump’s son and director of the Trump Organization Erik Trump took the stand and repeatedly testified that he knew nothing about financial statements about the value of corporate assets in his golf and real estate empire.
The legal wrangling comes during a week in which Ivanka’s brother Donald Trump Jr. testified
Former President Trump has criticized Judge Arthur Engoron, who imposed a $10,000 fine because his comments violated a silence order
The company’s ability to continue doing business in New York state is at stake as New York AG Letitia James demands a $250 million fine after a judge already issued a finding of fraud.
The former president, who has repeatedly attacked the judge and James, will take the stand for his own blockbuster testimony on Monday.
Ivanka, who helped manage real estate projects including the former Trump hotel in Washington, D.C., was expected to take the stand on Wednesday.
Ivanka Trump joined her father as a White House adviser during his time in office, while her brothers Don Jr. and Eric worked as executives to run their father’s business.
The former president is outraged by the proceedings, even as he chose to attend hearings in person while shooting his perceived enemies from the courthouse.
‘Leave my children alone, Engoron. You are a disgrace to the legal profession!’ he told the judge, who had imposed a silence order and fined him earlier in the case after an attack on his chief legal clerk.
