The View’s Joy Behar exposes Sara Haines’ secret ‘lesbian relationship’ in front of her parents live on air

Joy Behar revealed Sara Haines’ “lesbian relationship” in front of her parents in a very awkward moment on The View on Wednesday.

As the segment aired live, Behar, 82, questioned her co-host about the same-sex romance she had in college while her mother and father sat in the audience.

As Haines’ parents and the rest of the audience reacted in shock, co-host Alyssa Farah reminded Griffin Behar that they were on air and she brought up something Haines, 47, had told them “off air.”

The cringe-worthy moment occurred near the end of the show when co-host Whoopi Goldberg was plugging Haines and her parents’ upcoming appearance on the program’s Behind the Table podcast when Behar interrupted.

“I have to ask her a question,” Behar said, turning to Haines. “Are you going to bring up that lesbian relationship you said you had with Smith?” [College]?’

Haines started laughing while their other co-hosts reacted in shock.

When the camera cut to Haines’ parents in the studio audience, her father’s jaw dropped and her mother smiled.

‘Dad, earmuffs! Earmuffs!’ Haines said to him, miming with her hands over her ears.

“It was off air that she told us that,” Griffin Behar reminded.

Sunny Hostin then joked, “Now it’s on the air.”

Haines made light of the awkward situation, joking, “It’s a good thing my dad isn’t always watching… But now he is.”

Goldberg added, “Now he will.”

Haines — who grew up in an “extremely conservative” household and attended a left-wing liberal arts college for women in Northampton, Massachusetts, she said TV insider in 2016 – has been in an opposite-sex marriage with lawyer Max Shifrin for ten years.

The longtime couple share three children together: Alec, eight, Sandra, six, and Caleb, five.

There was also another time on The View where Behar was the one asked about same-sex relationships on air.

In June, she was asked by a guest, comedian Sarah Bernhard, who is herself openly gay, if Behar had ever “had it with a lady.”

Behar answered honestly, “No, but one day I will.” When Bernhard told her to “hurry up,” Behar said she would “do it when I’m in my nineties!”

Shortly thereafter, Behar brought Haines into the conversation after he mentioned that he had previously been to a lesbian bar in Manhattan.

‘You have? I didn’t see you there!’ Behar joked. “She’s a lipstick lesbian!”

Behar has been co-host of The View since the series’ inception in 1997. She took a brief hiatus from the show in 2013 before returning two years later.

She won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2009 for her work on the daytime talk show.

Meanwhile, Haines has been an occasional co-host since joining the group in 2016.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
