The View is slammed in a scathing New York Times review by longtime fan and author Megan Stack

The bad reviews keep coming for The View as the long-running talk show was slammed in a scathing New York Times review by longtime fan and author Megan Stack who called it a “choir of conformity.”

She took aim at the show in a guest essay published Friday, saying she loved it for its “messy and fearless debate,” but the co-hosts now pretty much agree on every point.

Stack revealed she was a fan of the show and argued that it has become too conformist to present Americans as “the people are divided” and “our many divisions hinder coherent governance.”

The writer lashed out at The View, which bills itself as a program sharing multiple viewpoints on different topics, saying it “continues to project a brightly lit illusion of agreement.”

Stack pointed out how the panelists agree that Joe Biden is a good president and share similar thoughts on topics such as gun reform and protecting LGBT rights, which are notorious for dividing American opinion.

She began her criticism by saying that her friends aren’t interested in The View because they think the co-hosts – Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro and Farah Griffin – are “always fighting.”

But Stack labeled this ironic, claiming there are hardly any arguments in the show that make it even worse.

“Which is funny, because if you ask me, the co-hosts don’t argue nearly enough,” she wrote.

At least, not substantively. Not anymore. The free-running debates that once sparked a wide range of American opinions on everything from reproductive rights to foreign policy have largely died down.”

The author said, “The View has become a chorus of conformity,” adding, “The title of this show I’ve loved for years suggested messy and fearless debate.” Lately it seems like an order.’

Stack said the list of co-hosts would make you think they had different points of view, but they would eventually agree on important liberal policy points.

“The hosts are centrist Democrats (Ms. Hostin and Ms. Behar), centrist Republicans (Ms. Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro), and a centrist independent (TV journalist Sara Haines),” she wrote.

‘But anyway, they agree. They agree (or at least pretend to agree) that Mr. Biden is fundamentally a good president.”

Even on topics notoriously divisive in American opinion — the need for “common sense gun reform,” protecting LGBTQ rights and funding the war in Ukraine — they don’t find much to discuss with each other. .

“Even those who privately view abortion as a sin agree that access should be preserved in some cases.”

And she spoke of how the panel is united in their support of President Biden, calling it “unapologetically cheerleading.”

“The panel of ‘View’ hosts is annoyed and dismissive of other Democrats who may be vying for the nomination,” her column added.

Stack pointed to how Griffin had spoken about her doubts about voting for Biden, which was quickly shut down by her colleagues.

She said, “Mrs. Farah Griffin has said she would write another candidate before voting for Mr. Biden or Mr. Trump, but her counterarguments are often interrupted or dismissed by the rest of the panel.

‘Mr. Biden “needs another four years to get the job done,” Ms Behar said. “You can’t fight fascism in four years. You need eight years.”

Stack continued her example, saying Hostin added that “He accomplished a lot,” while Goldberg said, “He brought us back from the abyss.” Maybe it’s not a perfect country, but it’s better than where we were.”

Then the music came on and the audience applauded. The discussion was over,” she wrote.

The writer also claimed that the co-hosts were unanimous in their hatred of former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

She added, “And there is no more important similarity—which gives the show an intoxicating but strangely unreal flavor—than the ladies’ utter contempt for Mr. Trump and, increasingly, everyone belonging to his party.”
