The Veronicas’ shock ‘split’ has been revealed as a publicity stunt to promote alcohol brand Vodka Cruiser and fans are not happy.

Band members Lisa and Jessica Origliasso, 37, let the cat out of the bag on Wednesday, just days after they announced they were breaking up by teasing their upcoming solo projects.

‘PSA The Veronica’s have not broken up. We are powerful together, but we can be equally as powerful alone,’ the twins both wrote to Instagram.

Online fans have slammed the duo following Wednesday’s announcement, with one writing: ‘They’re simply just trying to get mentioned and raise interest so people will buy their stuff agin.’

‘Yeah, it’s about time they squeezed out a fresh press release, even if it means nothing!’ another added.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday, Jessica assured fans that The Veronicas are ‘absolutely still together’, contrary to their previous announcements.

‘We are 100 per cent still going. We can’t afford to split The Veronicas just yet. In fact, we have some new Veronicas music that we are working on that we are very excited about,’ she said.

In a controversial marketing tactic, the pair are spruiking Vodka Cruiser’s new ‘The Solo Project’ campaign by releasing songs about ‘feminine empowerment and self-pleasure’.

‘Masturbation. There, we said it, but we need to talk about it. That’s why we’re kinda, sorta breaking up. So together with Vodka Cruiser we’re breaking up and writing our own solo songs for the first time ever, to empower more females and femme people to talk about going solo too,’ the sisters said in a promo video for the collaboration.

‘What we keep saying is we’re powerful together, but we’re also powerful alone, and the whole spirit of this campaign is that we want to encourage feminine people to know they are powerful and they are capable and entitled to pleasure themselves without any permission from the world,’ she added.

The Veronicas’ shock announcement came less than a day after the band mysteriously wiped their official Instagram page and unfollowed everyone.

The twins also posted the same cryptic message in white text on a black background on their own personal accounts.

‘Love knows not its own depth, until the hour of separation,’ read the cryptic message.

In May it was revealed that The Veronicas had parted ways with Sony, the record label giant that helped skyrocket them to global success in 2014.

Jessica and Lisa started The Veronicas in 2004 and went on to release a string of chart-topping tunes including 4Ever, Hook Me Up and Untouched.

Sadly, tensions between the sisters caused led to the band taking a temporary hiatus when Jessica began dating her ex-girlfriend actress Ruby Rose in 2017.

At the time it was rumoured that Lisa, who is married to actor Logan Huffman, didn’t approve of Jessica’s new flame.

The pair didn’t speak for 18-months, sparking speculation that the band had permanently broken up.

They made amends in 2019, following Jessica and Ruby’s split.

‘We as twin sisters have a bond that cannot really be explained to anybody else,’ Lisa told News Corp of her feud with Lisa.

‘We feel it in the deepest parts of who we are, and even in hard times… I guess somewhere we always knew that. But we went through a very difficult time where we weren’t communicating.’
