The Valheim board game crushes crowdfunding goals on its first day

Valheim is a fun crafting survival game to play with a group of friends set in the Viking afterlife, and the board game adaptation is off to a good start. A crowdfunding campaign will start on Tuesday Valheim: The Board Game went live on Gamefound with 300% funding already reached. There are no complicated goals for the game, as the developer opts to deliver a complete, core experience, but there are some fun goodies that players can pledge for along with the game itself.

We interviewed developer Ole Steiness in June about the board game’s design; a two-hour session is designed to mimic the evolution of playing Valheim on a server with friends. This means there are roles for everyone, even players who prefer to keep the home. “You have to develop yourself and your home to take on this challenge,” Steiness explains. “You will explore the map, which will consist of tiles on the board, and events will occur and creatures will appear to challenge you. As you fight your way through, you’ll collect resources so you and your friends can build a cool character and a cool house, until you take on the big boss battle at the end of the game.

Mood Publishing showed an 18-minute trailer of one way the game could unfold, with a group of Vikings working together to defeat Bonemass. There is also a solo mode for players who prefer to go it alone.

The crowdfunding campaign runs until October 21; the estimated arrival date for the board game is October 2025. Players can also purchase additional goodies such as an exclusive dice set, a play mat and a beautiful dice tower. The Collector’s Edition is a way to get these extras, and also comes with a stylish gold foil box containing holographic cards.
