What’s a witch without her dark magical secrets? Marvel’s Agatha Always Already miniseries has one front and center, starring Kathryn Hahn’s devilish Agatha Harkness, last seen in 2021’s WandaVisionfeatures a brave young witchy wannabe, initially only as “Teen”, and played by Heart ConquerorIt’s Joe Locke.
The character’s real name has not yet been revealed: As of tonight’s premiere episodes, there’s an apparent magical effect preventing him from revealing it. He’s listed in the credits as “Teen” and is referred to on the show as “Teen.” And the cast and crew have kept his identity a secret.
But if you know anything about Marvel Comics’ Scarlet Witch, Marvel magic, or the teenage superheroes of the setting, you have a pretty good idea. If Locke isn’t playing Billy Kaplan, AKA Wiccan, that would be extremely strange.
Billy is the Marvel Comics teenage superhero known as Wiccan, or the Demiurge. He is a frequent member of the Young Avengers when the team is together and on adventures. He has innate magical powers that allow him to warp reality by simply saying what he wants to happen and directing that intention. And he has a magical destiny to grow into: it is foretold that he will one day become so powerful that he will be able to rewrite the laws of magic itself.
That may not be the case corpses The teen’s real identity is a given. At this point, all we know is that he’s a teenage boy who has a boyfriend and wants to be a witch, and that while he’s a bit dim-witted, he’s powerful enough to crack the Scarlet Witch’s illusion around Agatha. Oh, and whenever he tries to say his name or explain who he is, all Agatha hears is gibberish or muffled noise. Nothing that happened in Agatha so far contradicts the possibility that Teen is an original character, new to any Marvel timeline.
But there is a ton of circumstantial evidence suggesting he is Wiccan. First, Locke is an exact copy of the character design. Skinny teenage boy, floppy dark hair. Check.
Second, Billy is a character who looks like Scarlet Witch, and this is a Scarlet Witch-esque series. In the comics, Billy is—it’s more complicated than that, but don’t worry—one of Scarlet Witch’s long-lost twin sons. Her children, Billy and Tommy (or illusions of them, at least), have already been seen in WandaVision and in the alternate universes visited in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Teen could be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s way of integrating Billy into the main timeline in a more permanent way.
We also know that Teen has a boyfriend: Wiccan is one of Marvel’s most prominent queer characters. He and his boyfriend Teddy (the superhero known as Hulkling; no relation to the Hulk) have been together in comics for nearly two decades.
In summary: Billy and Teen are both witchy magic users with certain powers, they look the same, they both have a connection to Scarlet Witch, and they are both homosexual. Agatha Always Already hasn’t revealed anything that would prevent Teen from being an original character, but nothing has been revealed either that would prevent him from being the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Billy.
We will look Agatha Always Already We’ll be watching the rest of the episodes closely to see if it really is a “Wiccan All Along” and we’ll keep you posted. Because if this isn’t Billy Kaplan, it’s the trickster of the century.
